Hello again, I recently bought 2 pci video cards. i'm using the same motherboard gigabyte ga586hx. the video cards are a tnt2 m64 and a geforce 2mx 400. the motherboard wines about "no video card"error with the tnt2 and with the geforce 2, I get nothing at all. I tested both of these in my slot 1 pentium 3 after that and both worked ok. I have read on a previous post here it could be a pci version mismatch which I suspect from the geforce 2. If neither are incompatible. what cards will work(besides voodoo) in this motherboard? forgot my chipset is a 430hx.

Does your board work with other PCI video cards?

Yes, the only card that works is the s3 trio64 2mb card. I don't have any others beyond these three.

I do have a Shuttle HX board and can test a 5200 based Quadro in it. The board came with a Tseng ET6000 so that definetely works fine.

been looking at a matrox millenium g200 to put into the pc. Is this a good card from a compatibility standpoint? Also are Ati rages and early radeon cards are good with compatibility?

Matrox yes, ATI Radeon is too new, Rage could work. There's also the Mach64 on PCI that works for sure. Not better than the S3 Virges.

With respect to the choice of cards I assume the OP is trying to run 3D games on a 430HX board? G200, Rage Pro, Verite 2x00 and Riva128 are more periodically correct and they should work. Riva128 should be the fastest in OpenGL and I heard Verite 2x00 is quite slow in DOS.
Speaking of PCI compatibility... 430HX supports PCI 2.1 and most TNT2 PCI cards I saw are keyed to fit either 3.3V or 5V slot. In reality I once sold a TNT PCI over ebay and the buyer complained about incompatibility. My friend had a TNT2 PCI and it doesn't work with his new PCI-E based motherboard. G550 PCI won't work on P5A but G450 PCI works on it without a problem. So I don't know what caused the problem.

The tnt2 m64 card i have has keys on both ends and the geforece only had a 5v key. I ordered a rage pro 128 32mb pci which is diablo tech hopefully that works.
