I was looking over the list of games that support MT-32 on a wiki, and the most demanding one I saw was Transport Tycoon Deluxe. Not even sure it is worth trying to run it on an older computer as once the cities/routes get huge, it can come to an absolute crawl.. just like the SimCity games.

Are any of the games that support MT-32 speed sensitive as in they will run too fast past a certain CPU speed?

I only have one intelligent mode supporting card so I could use that in a slower system and then use SoftMPU on a faster system if need be.

Does that game use MT-32's default patches ? Please excuse, if I sound somewhat
ignorant here but I'vee only really played the OS/2 version of SimCity so far (no, really!). 😊
If the game uses the defaults, you could use an SB32/AWE card or an Ensoniq Audio PCI 3000.
Both include an MT-32 emulation mode. It doesn't sound too shabby if the game "plays nice".
That way, you could keep the MT-32 beeing connected to your slower machine.

PC Attract mode - Silpheed - Ensoniq AudioPCI (8Mb ECW, MT-32 emulation)
PC Intro - The Secret of Monkey Island - Ensoniq AudioPCI (8Mb ECW, MT-32 emulation)
PC Intro - LOOM - Ensoniq AudioPCI (8Mb ECW, MT-32 emulation)

AWE EMU8000
PC Intro - The Secret of Monkey Island - Sound Blaster AWE32 (MT-32 emulation)

Wing Commander runs way too fast on most 486 CPUs, I think.

Leisure suit Larry 3 has some CPU speed sensitive parts. ie. the required number of exercise repetitions in the gym increases with the CPU speed.

Lots of Sierra titles are speed sensitive.
