i have an EGA wonder ISA card thats dated frm like 1987
it only has 9pin connector + composite

it looks most like this but it doesnt say 800 only "ega wonder"

anyway im wondering
if i got one of these funky cables. going from 9pin male to 15pin male..
would that work to connect the EGA wonder to a flatscreen LCD monitor? (ie samsung syncmaster?)

is the samsung series syncmaster multisync? is that how this works? the manual says the VGA modes are supported in multisync mode only

ive been trying to find an EGA CRT monitor to connect this to.. but so far no dice.

i noticed the lightpen feature - kinda neat - i guess the lightpen would only work on CRT ?

so the manual, it says it supports Multi-sync mode, EGA mode, RGB mode, 25Khz mode, and TTL mode

is there any way to make this work on a modern SVGA LCD ?

No, this will not work. EGA is digital, VGA analog. You need an EGA Monitor or a converter. I just ordered one for 15€ incl. shipment from China.

To add to the previous reply, most VGA-compatible monitors only work at horizontal scan rates of 31.5 kHz or higher. I don't think there are any EGA modes that go that high. So even if the multi-sync setting produced an appropriate analogue signal, you would need a particular type of monitor. There are monitors that can accept a scan rate down to about 15 kHz, but they tend to be uncommon and expensive, and Amiga fans often snap them up, regardless of cost.

It is very unlikely that you will find a VGA-compatible LCD monitor that will do what you want.

^ you are referring to the Commodore 1084 monitors that had a TTL input (meant for C128 and maybe Commodore's pc lineup). These are CGA monitors, they will display low-res EGA but not 640x350 modes.
As Predator99 mentioned a true EGA monitor is needed - all the monitor selections on the EGA WONDER no matter how they call them are for TTL monitors, not analog ones.

IMHO if one uses a converter to make an EGA work with a LCD then the better route is to install an ISA VGA and call it a day.

Also the card pictured is an EGA WONDER 800 rev.3

Agreed. I'm not familiar with that card, so I thought that if it had an unusual feature that caused it to generate an analogue signal, it might work with certain VGA-compatible monitors. I was referring to one of the 15kHz-capable Sony monitors that quite a number of Amiga fans were after a few years ago (don't remember the exact model), which, as you point out, still won't work.

Just for future reference, then, what does the multi-sync setting do for an EGA card?

It allows for bigger resolutions than 640x350 in EGA mode (provided the card has them) and it allows you to connect to it anything using 15~35khz analog/ttl (which means cga/ega/vga/amiga/your consoles/whatever)

i already replaced the ega wonder with a Tseng et4000 card from cardinal..
i really just wanted to use this egawonder card to test it out at least
the funny thing is this card was designed to fit with almost any type of monitor frm the 80s
but now here were are post-90s and i cant get it to work with basically anythign 🤣
i havent even been able to find a composite monitor let alone an EGA/RGB...
i dunno why its so hard to find.. but i guess the "Recycling" companies did a great job of ridding the
planet of the old technology.. coz i cant find a RGB monitor and i been looking for like 2 years 🤣
