Has anyone ever used or have better knowledge on these pci-x to pci-e adapters?

In my mind , they simply convert a pci-x slot to a 1x speed pci-e slot I ASSUME by adding a pci-e bus?

However , I know that when it comes to server things I tend to think incorrectly about these types of things being universal.

Are these usniversal or do they require a specific type of machine or chipset or are they for only backpane systems or what.

Most stuff like that will work in about any system hardware wise. But they can get buggy with some setups.
I have never used a pci-x to pci-e adapter, but I used a pci to agp and pci to pcie adapters before.
For me the biggest thing that I ran into was the addin card not being able to screw into the case without a very long screw.

EDIT:
Also keep a close eye on the specs of the adapter, some have a max power load limit.
