I have some Supermicro Socket 604 dual Xeon boards and was wondering if I could use Xeon MP's? I tried to see an official CPU support list, but nothing. The product page is basically what was stated at launch. I know some folks have gotten Gallatin Xeon MP's working on DP boards.

Would be interesting to see if Potomac or Tulsa work work on these boards.

List of what has worked

Dell Precision 530 (i860 Colusa / mPGA603) > Xeon MP 3.0 (Gallatin SL79V)
Supermicro X5DAE (E7505 / mPGA604) > Xeon MP 3.0 (Gallatin SL79V)

I had put two SL79Vs on X5DAE and they worked fine. So I reckon at least some MP should work on your board.
You might have a better chance with Potomac since Tulsa requires support for dual-core. I would just buy a pair of 7140Ms and find it out myself if I am in your situation. They are sold for 8 dollars each shipped on ebay.

Yea, my first bet would be Potomac.

Do you know where is a the Supermicro CPU support list? Or did you just randomly put in CPU's to see if it worked? 😀

Not exactly but close to the latter one. I won't do random picks. In this case, I checked the prices of Tulsa CPUs on eBay and even the fastest one, the 7140M, only costs 8 dollars each. So in the worst case I pay 6 bucks for returning them, and in the best case I have 4 cores running with 32MB of L3 cache.

Nice, I'll pick up the Potomac Xeon MP's are report here. They are basically Noconas with a massive 8MB L3 cache.

The main issue I forsee with Tulsa is that they are Cedar Mill based. Cedar Mill DP Xeons (50xx series) had already transitioned to Socket 771.
