I know of someone who has an old IBM PC XT 5160 (64-256k) motherboard.
According to some old notes he made, there was apparently a 4870 ROM error on the screen when he tested it.

Based on some online searches, I've not been able to find anything about this particular error.
Does anyone perhaps have an idea what this could mean?

Normally when the 5160 detects a ROM checksum error it prints the 5-digit hex physical address of the start of the failing ROM, which is a multiple of 800 between c8000 and f4000 inclusive (e.g. "C8000 ROM"). So "4870 ROM" is not a standard error, which means it could be just about anything.
