Nice find. Since it is in a box with other cards and can be damaged easily make sure to check all the tiny legs of the three 3dfx chips first before testing the card. Shorting on any of these pins will cause the card not to function or function properly. They bend very easily.

Before powering the card it is an easy fix with a needle point and a good set of eyes (or magnifier). Not checking this first can destroy the card.

$60 on eBay for an Asus P5A-B listed as "PSA-8". (Quite) a bit more than I'd usually spend on a retro motherboard, but good SS7 AT boards like these are stupidly hard to find, they usually go for even more, and I've been itching to do a Phil-style "time machine" build utilizing SetMul for the longest time.

Don't feel bad, last Friday I spent $140 (CAD) on a ASRock 939-Dual - it's coming with the original box, backplate, an Athlon 4200+ and cooler, 4GB RAM and two 80GB SATA drives though, so I figured the time it will save me sourcing those parts individually is worth the slightly premium price tag.

Well, I just spent $100 on this:

I didn't have that monitor, I needed the floppy drive and everything else was just icing on the cake! Yay! Now I don't have grocery money for next month!

On the topic of spending to much money for old hardware.. I paid over 70€ for this thing. It arrived today aaaannd suprise the cache doesn't really work... On post it tells me that 256K are detected (with and AMD DX4 anyway, with my Cyrix it only says 64k), but speedsys and cachechk both tell me that there is no L2 present.

Try tightening the cache timings in the BIOS... with my PCChips M921, I noticed the chipset auto-configuration settings in the horrible WinBIOS are so slow that cachechk is not able to detect any cache, I need to manually set it to a reasonable value such as 2-1-2 for the cache to be detected.

Brand new sealed Canopus Spectra X21 (GeForce 3 Ti500). I bought this not knowing it was still sealed. Looks like a white box OEM unit, with some manuals in Japanese and even a receipt. I ripped maybe 1/5 of the seal before pondering my decision... I'm thinking about keeping it sealed. And yes, I did try to open the tape without trying to damage it. However, it is heavily perforated and IMO, not possible.

My portion of the 586 CPU trays I've been waiting on for, for a long time have arrived. Unfortunately the Socket 1 trays were damaged, but the Socket 7 trays arrived in great condition.

Got a few VLB cards, happy with them and looking forward to testing/benching them. I just hope I can get my new VLB motherboard to work...
