After getting bored of Rhapsody DR2, I've decided to replace it with an early version of Caldera OpenLinux (1.2?) from an ancient Linux Desktop Kit CD. Pretty interesting OS for its' time, the installer detected every piece of hardware correctly in the P233 rig on my sig. I chose to do a large installation which leaves me with a good bit of stuff to play around with especially when it comes to multimedia. The screensaver selection reminds me of both Windows 3.x and 95 combined. And the best part, it contains a couple different Tetris clones, there was even one built into the installer which you could play while (or right after) it's installing the OS.
Next stop on my 90s OS journey: OS/2 Warp 4
^^ neat, that was my first experience with Linux, I got a full retail box somewhere. It wasn't bad at all for the time period I used it (1999~2002ish.)
Trivia: SCO eventually bought it out from Caldera, and then instigated the SCO Unix vs Linux fake infringement lawsuit debacle. To this day OpenLinux / SCO remains blacklisted on Distrowatch because of that. (It's still on the site but won't appear in search results, etc.)

Did a bit of cleanup of my games collection that are installed on my Packard Bell Pack-Mate 28 Plus by game name with the types of sound cards using batch files and the good old choice command.
Another thing I would like to try would be to direct certain games that only work with 330h for the MPU-401 to get directed to the Wavetable Daughterboard (Yamaha DB50XG) that's on channel 300h (Sierra On-Line Quest series games, like Police Quest VGA and King's Quest VI for MS-DOS and Windows). I'm wondering if there is a way for that? I do have a Joystick to MIDI cable with the splitter to hook up a joystick to it while using an external MIDI module.

Nice 😀
I tested some GOG games on my DOS PC, then ended up playing Descent 2 for about 30 minutes and Terminal Velocity for almost an hour. Was happy that GOG brought the Descents back, because I'd been using abandonware versions. Now that they're being sold again, I'm all legit on these two. 😊
The more I learn, the more I realize how much I don't know.

Finally got this Optiplex GX1 up and running. Pentium II 350MHz, 256MB RAM, 4MB onboard ATI gfx, onboard Crystal sound, 40GB hard drive, DVD-ROM, floppy drive.
A 32MB Matrox G550, 4MB SGRAM upgrade, and a Celeron 1GHz socket 370 + slocket upgrades are on their way. Thoroughly cleaned inside and out!

Looks amazing! What made you decide to upgrade it?

As much of a fan I am of playing games on their original time period hardware, I gotta recommend DXX-Rebirth for descent 1 and 2 on a modern rig. They play so well that way.

I had a motherboard from such DELL PC, but then I used a standard ATX PSU to test it 😀
Spent yesterday installing Win98 SE on my Pentium 133 build and some hours soldering new serial ports, since A-Trend apparently did not use the same pin-out as Soyo.

I just like maxing these things out. As for the video card upgrade, I want to be able to use it at 1600x1200 in 32-bit color. The processor upgrade should be a nice welcome; nearly 3x the performance.

Very nice to see a Spectrum running - seems like Sir Clive is still among us.
Timedemo'd a nightmare demo through all of DoomII with the P66. Unfortunately the "real-tic" counter seemed to have suffered an overflow.
Removed one of the Voodoo 2's from the SLI setup in my K6-2/400 system. Not only did the Fast Voodoo drivers and mismatched cards were being a pain, but the SLI cable I juryrigged seems to have stopped working, and I don't think a second one is worth paying 10 GBP on eBay. I can live with 800x600 Quake 2 on that PC.
Installed the Intel i486 DX4-100 OverDrive (after fixing the bent pins) in my Packard Bell Pack-Mate 28 Plus last night and it took a while for the system to detect the processor correctly as it said the processor was an Intel i486 DX2-100 until I booted into Windows and rebooted the system. Luckily, i didn't need to set the jumpers since I had the DX2-66 in it previously.
However, I'm facing issues when I'm trying to play Doom in Windows for Workgroups 3.11 (Doom plays nicely on my other systems without issues). Is it because I need L2 cache to get the game to run within Windows?

This is my beach scene from the virtual online Classic Mac thingie. I feel it embodies sun & fun.
We should start a thread of our art only made in pre 90s paint programs. I would think only hilarity would ensue. Especially considering I suck at drawing.
We do have a content creation thread but it never really took off. Re: Content Creation?
