The game runs fine, but theres a few graphic glitches.
It says to run a "SUPPORTED" video card, like the ATI Rage Fury, but other than that it does support DirectX 7.0 and UP.

There are vertical lines that appear on the trees, stretching to the whole Y axis of the image.

I bought this game along time ago, and I think it never showed the lines then.

You should try tinkering with "texture clamping behaviour" in the drivers. I am sure it can be done for nVIDIA and maybe for ATi too.

Intel i7 5960X
Gigabye GA-X99-Gaming 5
8 GB DDR4 (2100)
8 GB GeForce GTX 1070 G1 Gaming (Gigabyte)

There's no such feature in the ATI drivers, but maybe there's something related in one of the tweak tools like Radlinker or ATI Tray Tools.

Could also be a texel alignment issue - try using alternate texel alignment.

I see alternate pixel center, but nothing for texels. I'll try Radlinker.

Thanks

It's the same thing... I think I was getting the name confused with the corresponding nVidia option, but it has the same effect.

Could also be a texture compression issue.

yes, texels (pixels of a texture). People confuse me if there talking about screen pixels, or texels. But it's no problem.

Should I put compressed textures off?

yes, still the same. HunterZ, is there anyway for you to try out this game and see what you get with your Radeon 9800 PRO? We have the same card.

Unfortunately, the only NFS games I have are NFS: High Stakes and NFS Underground 2.

There are a couple of NFS3:HP2 patches at dlh.net that you should try:
http://dlh.net/cgi-bin/dp.cgi?lang=eng&ref=&sys=&cap=n

I've also searched Google and found a "v242 patch", but it doesn't mention any graphics updates.

Just for reference, here are links to info on what graphics cards the game is designed to support. Note that there's a serious known issue with Radeon 9700 Pro cards:

It's caused by anti-aliasing or ansiotropic filtering as these games weren't made with those features in mind and ATI don't do it very well with older games leading to these lines. You see them even in newer games quite often too. Messy, and annoying, my Voodoo5 did anti-aliasing better!

Still can you use 32bit colour? It only lets me select 16bit on my card due to EA's shoddy graphics card identification code :-p

My PC spec: Win10 64bit, i7-4970K (not overclocked), KFA2 GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER, Creative Soundblaster ZXr, 16GB RAM, Asus Z97-A motherboard, NZXT 410 case, ROG Swift GSYNC monitor

Yup, I can only use 16bit too. I thought I misread that untill I took my glasses off. Anyway to change it to 32bit?

HunterZ, yes I have that update. And I saw the "Supported Cards", and I saw Radeon 9000 as the latest cards, but you'd think 9800 PRO would work fine.

I tried with no anistrophic or anti aliasing, and there were no veritcal lines.
Kind of hard to believe color blending can do all of that....

That sucks, Im going to call SMOOTHVISION to JAGGEDVISION. Shame on ATI.

heh. Mabye that's ATI's plan. You'll have to buy their SLI tech for their new AA tech...dammit can't remember the name...for old games. heh. Read an article on it the other day but can't remember the name for the new AA.
