Anyone had an experience? Considering its overall poor performance, I wonder if it's possible to use C6 as scalable 486 class CPU (clocks, caches disabled), but in more comfortable Socket 7 form.

A few years back I was testing all my VGA cards and adding results to Phil's benchmark spreadsheet, among these was a Realtek RTG3105ieh ISA card. This brought the speed of the system down to the levels of a slowish 486.
It's entry number 63 if you want to take a look.

And with PCI/AGP card? Using ISA card to slowdown system is interesting, but not so much practical.

it was the slowest of them all

It is slow, but probably still faster in clock-for-clock comparison with real 486 class CPU. Most likely due to wider FSB and bigger cash though.

details on target software?

Usual suspects - Wing commander, Might&Magic III, Alone in the Dark.

A Rendition card is slower than many ISA cards in VGA 320x200x256 mode. It is quite fast in VESA modes, though. Unfortunately not too common or cheap.
Pre-Millenium/Mystique Matrox cards like Impression or Ultima are even slower, but quite uncommon.

More interested in CPU slowdown without additional handicaps like ISA/obscure PCI video cards.
