I'm running xp on a pentium m 1.7
WHen i set up dosbox and follow the instructions, it informs me that the drive I'm trying to mount doesn't exist. I've re-read and re-tried the instructions several times with no luck.
I put the folder containing my games on c:\pcgold collection

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

MOUNT C: C:\PCGOLD

Then to change to that drive:

C:

Then to change to a directory:

CD\DIRECTORYNAME

You've got one colon too many. Should be "mount c c:\pcgold"

In response to Kippesoep, I've tried it both ways, with the same result.

Show me your my computer and drives....are you dead sure your harddrive is labeled "C:" in windows? Did dosbox give you errors on the mount command or only when you attempted to switch to that directory?

@Kipp - I always refer to C as "C:" since thats how it was in the dos days 😎 Dosbox accepts it either way....so I always use C: for the sake of it.

I'm absolutely positive that pcgold is in the c directory, the path is c:\pcgold collection

The only time I get errors is when I type " mount c c:\pcgold collection "

Rename that dir to "Pcgold" without the collection so that there are no spaces in the name and try again.

In the future its best to keep your dos folders with short names and one word since thats how it was done in the "good 'ol days" and helps with old games that have issues seeing such complicated names.

One more thing, if you're still there.
Now that the drive is mounted, all I have to do is type run and the name of the executable? Or am I missing something.

You gave it dosbox's location and made sure the mount points are set? Check under "default options" and make sure you mount C properly.
