Many people *cough cough* have probably wondered how many socket adapters you can stack! Just how far can you go before things just refuse to work?
This is the setup we are testing.
Socket 8 (VS440FX) ---> PPGA S370 (PL-ProII) ---> FCPGA (PL-Neo S370) ---> FCPGA2 (Lin Lin)
I bought these adapters along with a motherboard and some CPUs, the previous owner had probably tried to stack the adapters but failed .
Reasons that might have hindered him from succeeding.
1. The motherboard he used (and sold in the bundle) is known to not work with the PL-ProII.
2. The connector that fits on the PL-ProIIs little fan header on the power cable for the fan on the heat sink he used had plus and minus inverted (not the original PL-ProII fan).
3. The jumper settings on the Lin Lin did not match a configuration described in the "user guide" = back of the box.
With a Gateway 2000 Intel VS440FX motherboard listed in the supported motherboard list for the PL-ProII, the jumper settings on the Lin Lin configured for FCPGA to FCPGA2 and the little fan cable NOT plugged in I was ready for smoke test. The CPU used is a Tualatin Celeron 1400, the memory is the 64MB EDO and the video card a Matrox Mystique (2MB+2MB). I did not bother to update the BIOS as I diddn't even know what BIOS the motherboard had.
The big moment. I had never even powered on this exact motherboard before.
The motherboard POSTed pretty much instantly after I hit the power button. After the memory count I took this picture.
I entered the BIOS setup and it seems the BIOS can see the Tualatin Celerons cache just fine...
But does it run alright?
I know member luckybob gets "REALLY suspicious" of people with all too tidy work benches and/or computer desks. I just want to let you know that you can relax Bob.
