Hi!

Can anyone identify this chip? I try to programm it with external USB flasher but can't find any refrence for it in the flash software. Non of these numbers fit to the predefined chip profiles.
The chip is DIP28 pulled straight out of the S3 Virge/GX2 AGP SG200A graphics card.
Heres the photo:

I would say this is a ROM, Read-only. You can read it as standard i.e. 27C256, but not rewrite it.

If "SG200A" is also the name of the card, then yes, this is a masked ROM.

Do people swap these out for EEPROMs to run a different BIOS? What's the advantage for the card?

Is it possible to directly replace this ROM with flashable memory? In other words: if I buy and flash a Winbond memory with the S3 BIOS and swap these chips, then will it work?

Highly likely it would work.
