Purchased brand new during my senior year of high school, this HX08 has housed more systems and been rebuilt more times than any other case I own. It has seen near constant use since beginning its service in 2000. Only for a few turbulent years between 2008 and 2010 did it sit idle. Before I get to its present day specs, lets take a quick look back at the major milestones.
This fuzzy photo from 2001 is the original build. Behind the plexiglass is a Spacewalker AE22 motherboard, Pentium 3 933mhz, 128mb ram, and yes, that is a Voodoo5.
Sometime in the early to mid 2000's, the AE22 died and was replaced by an Intel D815EEA2 and 1.2ghz Tualatin. The Tualatin served me well until about half way through optometry school at which time travel demands made lugging around a 30 pound computer and 17" CRT very impractical. A Thinkpad X22 became my daily driver and the tower was retired to a closet at my parents' house. By 2011, school was behind me and I was pretty well settled into my new career. The tower was retrieved and, once more, rebuilt with an Intel D875PBZ, 3.0ghz P4, and Radeon 9800pro. 2013 saw the most significant overhaul to date with powder coating paint work and rewiring my DIY fan control box. The system became an Intel X48BT2 with a C2D E8400, 4gb ram, and a Radeon HD7770. This was also the year it became my definitive home theater PC, a role in which it continues to serve to this day.
2018. I've spent about a month tearing it down, cleaning, and rebuilding with some minor upgrades.
Current specs: Intel X48BT2, Core2 Quad 9550S, 6gb ram, dual HD 7770s, 120gb SSD, 250gb and 2.0tb hard drives. The oldest part in there is the PC speaker mount salvaged from an IBM 5150 for the original build. The newest component is the 2.0tb hard drive which has a Jan. 2018 date stamp.
