I know that some games like Monuments of Mars ran on CGA and some games like commander keen's goodbye galaxy games had CGA versions but what about the other games like crystal caves, secret agent, duke nukem and duke nukem 2? I've heard the first commander keen trilogy won't run on cga hardware.

Is there a list somewhere of games that are compatible with CGA? I'm asking because I got a Compaq Portable 286 and I'm not used to dealing with CGA alone.

The tech specs on Mobygames are usually pretty accurate when they're filled in at all. You want these games:
http://www.mobygames.com/browse/games/apogee- … dos/tic,2/ti,1/
http://www.mobygames.com/browse/games/apogee- … dos/tic,2/ti,8/

Broussa(r)d's "F.A.S.T." games (lol) use CGA mode only, but they were probably created on EGA/VGA, because on a real CGA I get the wrong palette in Monuments of Mars and Pharaoh's Tomb.

Trivia: Monuments of Mars doesn't actually use the F.A.S.T. system. Monuments of Mars was written in C by Todd Replogle, while George Broussard's F.A.S.T. games were written in Pascal. They look very similar, but they use completely different code.

On topic: Since you seem to be into platformers, you could try Jill of the Jungle or the first Blues Brothers game. All 3 episodes of Jill have CGA support built in, Blues Brothers uses a separate executable for CGA graphics. The RGB Classic Games website also allows you to search for games that support CGA graphics.

Other Apogee/Micro FX games that work on CGA are Trek Trivia and Next Generation Tivia. They were discontinued decades ago (most likely due to legal issues) which is probably why they don't appear in leileilol's list.
