In the game Descent when you go to set your controls the game says press ^d to delete and ^r to reset. But I can't find any way to input this I even looked in the manual (1 & 2). If I press shift it just assigns it so there is now way for me to put ^ in in the first place I'm going crazy here?

thank you it worked is there a reason why the devs couldn't have just said that in the first place? Is it really that hard to type out "CTRL D", and what about the manuals paper and ink is cheap? Also whats up with the ^ symbol, whats that suppose to mean? Ugh no wonder DOS games are so obscure its really a labor of love.
I think the ^X notation for Ctrl-X was far more popular during DOS days, so the devs probably assumed that the players would know what it means.
