Pretty awesome!
Interesting. So do all SiS 5591/5595 and 5597/5598 motherboards work with L2 cache and the Tillamook, or just some?

No.
VIA Apollo VPX: PC Chips M537-DMA33 L2 cache works
SiS 5597/5598: Jetway TX98B; ECS P5SJ-A L2 cache works but Asus SP97-V L2 cache not works
SiS 5591/5595: PC Chips M590; Gigabyte GA-5SG100 L2 cache not works
Actually, my working P5SJ-A is a SiS 5582 it seems. It's the 5598 without integrated vga.
It probably shouldn't make a difference but it is worth noting.

OK, thanks.

How can I turn on L2 from DOS? I have utility for L1 cache turn on and off but I have no for L2 (or L3).
Yes i read about it in the whole topic .I guess i will have to try to see if it is supported in my qdi titanium iiib .What about extrecting the microcode from the working mobos and replace it in our boards.I guess that the mobos that disables the l2 cache are mobos that had followed the directivas coming from intel while those few working ones did not follow the instructions. This is the reason most socket 5 mobos work .No instructions errata back in old socket 5 days. Also i read that the 4x multiplyer is enabled once you set 2,5x in the mobo but also that the speed without l2 cache is not that back .Read the whole story in an article from a fellow site.I am waiting for my tillamook comming from China ,a guaranteed 100% cpu and will report back with my results.I will be upgrading my first ever pc from 1997 era.Fingers crossed!

Gona can you flash the m590 with the first made bios and test the tillamook?

I'd really like to have a Tillamook working with pipelined burst L2 cache on an Intel chipset. I remember the rumour was that the CPU only supported L2 cache in async mode, or in a special pipelined burst mode that was only supported in laptops. Has that been debunked? Is there any hope this chip might ever work on the mighty HX?

Hello China from Greece!Well this is a myth judging by the fact that Gona has reported 3 socket 7 mobos with l2 cache working. The only common thing in these 3 mobos is that they are actually old socket7 mobos with bios from 1997 one year earlier than 1998 that the mobile cpu came out in 1998.I guess that we need early bioses without cpu errata for tillamook. Please try your HX mobo with early bios. Can you tell me which HX mobo you have tried and which bios are you running?I saw you tried on a vx97.Can you flash this first revision tv5v0107.zip 1997 bios and report back?

Unfortunately I have no m590, I have collected the other Socket 7 results too from this topic.
I have: PC Chips M537-DMA33; Gigabyte GA-5SG100; PC Chips M560 TopGun (and Intel FX,VX,HX,TX boards, Aladdin V and MVP3 boards, here in brackets none of them works with L2 cache).

The async mode is a great idea (comes from BastlerMike) because Socket 5 boards are work with L2 cache (with CPU power adapter), and my Tillamook laptop also have async cache, but it has been debunked because there are some later (than Socket 5) boards which are also works with Tillamook + L2: PC Chips M537-DMA33; ECS P5SJ-A (non-VGA); Jetway TX98B and all of them are have synchronous pipelined burst L2 cache. I do not think there is any hope got Tillamook working with pipelined burst L2 cache on with Intel HX.
I got a Socket 7 Tillamook 266 laptop and it has "ACC Micro 2051" chipset, not an Intel one.
Hello Gona, please choose intel chipset mobos ,preferably 430tx and flash it with bios from 1996 pr early 1997 and repprt back.I guess that since tillamook works with some socket 7 mobos with burst pipeline,it should work with all.Try with early bios.

I have found an other VIA VPX motherboard by Aristo and L2 is not works. So:
VIA Apollo VPX: PC Chips M537-DMA33 L2 cache works but Aristo AM-545+ L2 cache not works
And I have played with them, swapping bioses:
PC Chips M537-DMA33 with Aristo bios L2 cache still works
Aristo AM-545+ with PC Chips M537-DMA33 bios L2 cache still not works
So this thing not depends on bios at all!
What do you mean by swapping bios? Did you flash pc chips with aristo? It should not even post .I checked the sp97-v , first bios is from 1997.Can you flash the initial version and try tillamook?

I have swapped bios chips between two boards. Both boot and the same way as own bioses.
Strange. They must been made by the same oem channel like tyan and various fujitsu siemens board and intel or840 with varius outriggers from different vendors out there. In any case i looked for ga 5sg100 and its premier bios is from 1998.My guess is that we need old bios from 1996 1997 era.Premiera bios for the sp97 is from 25 sep 1997.Maybe you could try it.You have notning to loose.

All my stuff is currently stored away, but I will try your earlier BIOS theory when I have a chance. If I recall correctly, I was indeed using the Tillamook on a VX97. I can't remember if I was using the stock BIOS, but I am pretty sure at some point I reflashed the BIOS with a modded one that included K6+ support. The other board I tried was a TX board from QDI called Titanium 1B+. This one sets the voltage through software with something called "Speedeasy", and I am not sure if it would let me drop the voltage to a relatively safe setting.
I currently only have one HX board. It's a Supermicro of some sort, but it needs to be repaired because of trace damage due to a leaky battery.

Hello,i will be trying tillamook in my titanium iiib. Yours qdi ib+ seems to be a newer model and supports 2,0 vcore judging by this picture. You can ofcourse deactivate speedeasy and either use jumpers or jumperless mode.At least i can in my titanium iiib. The bad thing is that i am still trying to find an older era 1997 bios.
