You can use a PnP card as long as you load the DOS driver that does PnP (for Creative cards, it's CTCM). You can also use ICU (Intel Configuration Utility) which is not limited to sound cards.

This manual is for IM-X42 but this is IM-425? Are they the same or different models?

Is this too much voodoo?

IM-4xx are part numbers. IM-425 is the x42 Control Unit, so yes, it's the correct manual.

Inside an old AT power supply.

Hello,
I recently bought one of these:

Thanks for your answer

I found the Epson here : https://www.ebay.com/itm/486-DX2-MICRO-PC-SIN … 9kAAOxyUylTT8IM

I buy 😀

Thanks to derSammler on eBay I also managed to build myself a working power adapter. Unfortunately my device is missing the necessary adapter to install a hard disk as seen in one of the pictures. Any advice? Or alternatives? Or workarounds?

Greetings, Michael

Install a Soundcard with IDE Port maybe ?

Or write the seller and complain about your problem.

While that is certainly possible, you would run into some issues. First, you are pretty much limited to the Formosa SC1630 sound card (aka 16-bit Audio Star), which is - to my knowledge - the only non-PnP sound card whose IDE port can be set to primary. Second, while the SC1630 is a rather short card, it's higher than most others and will collide with the RAM module in the EPSON unit (I tried). I only found 16 mb and some even smaller RAM modules that work with the EPSON *and* are small enough to not collide with the SC1630.

Edison Gold-16 can also be used as a primary IDE controller; its an ES688 card with real (clone) OPL3.

Thanks. Didn't know about that card. Might try to find one, as such cards can always be handy. 😀

Seems quite expensive. 😒

Well, another thing that I'm curious about, because I just noticed the fact that the middle slot in this computer isn't PCI. Is it possible to get Ethernet working without using the ISA-Slot? For me it would be perfect to have Ethernet and a Sound blaster.

You can connect something like the D-Link DE-620CT to the parallel port for Ethernet. There were other Ethernet adapters for the parallel port as well.

If you don't care about shipping, there's one at ebay from the US (263839591122).

you can also use epppd and pppd to connect over serial port.

epppd on dos side, and pppd on raspberry pi zero w -> COM/RS232 to Wlan bridge.
This way you can also connect windows 3.x to WiFI Networks.

Thanks, but I just found a new/boxed Xircom PE3 (powered by the PS/2 port) on Amazon.com for 25€ including shipping and taxes. Yeah.

Does anyone know what 32MB RAM works for this machine? I tried several but my monitor won't turn on when using a different RAM.

The one I use is Fast Page (EDO doesn't work afaik), double sided, and populated with 24 chips in total. From all 32 MB modules I own (and those are many), only that one worked.
