Tried to get some more network speed out of my WinME build, P4EE, 875P, Intel Pro 1000CT and C400 SSD. Before it did top out around 5-6 MB/s on my GbE home network when pushing data to it and when pulling data from it, 10-11 MB/s. I'm doing most of my cd-rom image archiving on that computer so some juiced up GbE MB/s over SMB would have been appreciated. After 4h and 30+ restarts it's now around 7-9 MB/s pushing data to it, and while it is better it was totally not worth the time. I tested with following options in combinations: RWIN Window, MTU (JUMBO FRAMES), Interrupt moderation rate, Flow Control rate. Out of these, only the interrupt moderation rate (off) gave some noticeable speed increase, 1-2 MB/s.
Well, at least I discovered that the switch I use at home is actually an managed switch and Windows ME does support jumbo frames but in the end, that windows 9x network stack is simply, shit.
