SimEarth running at VGA resolution of 640x480 makes some text and the menu bars unreadable. This problem doesn't occur at lower resolutions. The computer is a Windows 98SE with a Pentium III at 933 MHz and 512 MB of RAM. The graphics card is some sort of ATI Radeon with 256 MB of VRAM. I don't have the drivers currently installed (I reinstalled the OS), but that doesn't matter as when I was trying earlier with the drivers installed the error was still there. Running in Real DOS also doesn't fix the issue.

The video card BIOS is likely one that sacrificed the 8x14 font to free up space for VESA or other things. Try the FIX8X14 utility here (didn't link developer site because it appears to be secured at the moment).

Unrelated to the issue, but SimEarth will not like your computer's speed - it will run, but way too fast (it's already borderline unplayable on a Pentium II).

This worked, thanks a lot for the help.

While it definitely runs faster than running the game in DOSBox, I wouldn't call it unplayable.
