I dug up one of my old dos games today (Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo), and I tried to play it using dosbox, but once i chose the main file it said it requires the cd rom to play.

The thing is I have the cd rom in the drive, i've tried the following switches:

mount e e:\ -t cdrom -usecd 1 -ioctrl
mount c c:\oldgames -t cdrom -ioctrl

but none of them work. I am guessing im doing something wrong here, or does dosbox not support this kind of thing yet, games that require the cd to play I mean.

I have tried and tried but I can't get it to work right, any help would be appreciated.

are you certain that -usecd 1 is correct ? (and it's -ioctl instead of -ioctrl)

and remove the ioctl and -t cdrom from c:\oldgames thing

Water flows down the stream
How to ask questions the smart way!

Yes that is correct, I did the mount -cd argument and it gave me a list of my drives. I also tried the other cd drive (my cd burner) and that didnt work either.

Make sure that you installed the game from the CD and within DOSBox using the same exact mount settings that you are now trying to play it with - otherwise, the game may get confused and expect the CD to be at a different drive letter or whatever.

Also, I think it's -ioctl and not -ioctrl (no letter 'r')

Lastly, some games are hard-coded to expect the CD-ROM drive to be D:, so you may want to try mounting e:\ as d and reinstalling and rerunning the game as a last-ditch effort.

Good luck.

Hey thanks a lot for the help, I got it to work. Apparently I didnt see the typo I made, that was the problem with it.

Thanks again for the help 😀

Wow 😳 I'm so jealous of you 😁

I would love to have the PC-CD version of that game 😀 I got the demo and the 3 CD songs in that demo are awesome. Been trying quite hard to find a copy here and ebay now and then, but without any result 😢

It's pretty much the only game from the DOS days which I don't have and want.

Ok I got the game working and everything, but theres no sound. This game had digital audio in it, and I'd like to hear it as I play the game.

I think this falls along the line with the game requiring the cd to play, so I figured i'd go ahead and ask this.

Thanks in advance.

Sorry if I didn't make that clear enough. I meant to say the music in the game was digital audio (not midi), and I used the setup program with the game to set my soundcard and everything, but I dont even get sound effects.

Is there something i'm doing wrong here?

1. What version of DOSBox are you using?
2. What settings did you choose in the setup program?
3. Were you able to test the sound settings in the setup program? If so, were you able to hear sound there?

I am using the current dosbox 0.63, i chose sound blaster (original) for both digital, and midi, and I tested them out in the setup program.

The audio and voices play fine in the setup program, just that when I go to the game, I get nothing.

Hope this makes sense 😀

Strange. You might try using a CVS build, as they contain many official fixes and features added since 0.63. Check the development forum for more info.

Also, make sure that you're telling the setup program to save the settings (you never know...)

I got it to play with music!

You'll never believe what I did though, I loaded it onto my Windows 2000 PC (I use XP on my main one), ran dosbox, ran the install program, played the game, and it automatically detected my sound settings.

The remixed tracks are awesome btw, some of the best Street Fighter tunes I've heard.

Thanks for all the help, especially to HunterZ

Case Closed...
