You shouldn't need any specific settings. I *assume* you know that you need to run it by right-clicking and selecting "Run with VDMS" instead of just double-clicking. I also assume you've got update1.
That said, have you actually TRIED to get it to work? I mean, you've told us shit+1 about the actual problem. I don't mean to sound rude, but, y'know, we still don't have any mind-readers on staff.

I think the problem with Fasttracker 2 on NT is the DPMI. I have fiddled with the DPMI settings in both FT2 and NT and somehow managed to actually get some sound from it, it was extremly choppy though. I think pressing ALT-TAB a couple of times made it play smoth for a short while. Rumours said it would be possible to get it working with older FT2 versions like 2.06 or something, but I haven't found that possible either.
Hopefully DosBox will solve this problem for us some day.

Well, MODPlug is not a solution to the problem it's a substitute, a great one that is. But if you want to hear XM's as they was intended (if created with FT2) or create correct XM/XI file format FT2 is the way. MODPlug has it's own interpretation of the XM and XI formats.
Yeah well, I also got alittle sound from it with some experiments with DMA Buffer egs.... but mostly it's quite silent, tho Cubic Player works great. But that's a player, not a tracker..

Sorry, I can't give in detail every difference there is between the trackers. I mainly just have worked with the XI file format and don't even remember all that correctly. Though I remember MPT fills in some fields wrong and leaves some fields in the header empty and it uses a different padding. So when creating your own XM/XI files it's great to load and save them in FT2 to do a binary compare and see what you may have done wrong.
The difference between MPT XM's and FT2 XM's is not as big as the difference between MPT IT's and Impulse Tracker IT's at least. There are many things you may need to fix in a MPT IT before getting it compatible with Impulse Tracker.

Well, now im into FT2, I dont want to work with softsynth's or any other tracker, not yet.... Im almost ready to buy a cheap computer and put my awe64 in that machine and run FT2... just becouse I love that soft so much and have been working with it for years... (addict), "propellerheads - reason" is maybe a choice too but It will never compare to a tracker like FT2 🙁

As far as I know Modplug player/Tracker is one of the more accurate XM players avalible (except for FT2 ofcours).
Its quite hard to actually hear the difference, but its there. Some times when you have looped a sample alittle bad in Ft2 it becomes more obvious in Modplug ... its even worse in Madtracker2. Also ... Modplug uses different Interpolation algorithms to smooth crispy sounds differently from Ft2.

Yeah for your own productions it can be good to notice small flaws thro other apps. It was real pain for me when I switched to XP for the first time and I could not use Ft2 anymore, but that turned out to be a good thing. I then actually started to use Mt2 more seriously, and I also got used to Modplug tracker witch i previously didnt like very much due to the "Windows style" interface. Now I use both of those trackers alot.
It would ofcours be cool to get Ft2 to work in XP too, just for old sakes I guess.

So how real is XMPlay's claim of being "balls-on accurate" for XM play, then? If it's true, it's possibly a good/better alternative to Modplug, but I don't have any evidence either way...

Are you talking about IT or XM? I'm not using XM for tracking personally, I just know from other sources that MPT wont always play back XM's the way you want (and that binary compares wont be identical). And therefore may not be the solution in all situations.
If talking about IT it's pretty simple to fuck songs up in MPT if you want. Recommended reading would be my post at the MODPlug board:

Heh, I never thought of it that way. But actually I think one should follow the format standards if writing tracker with saving possibilities for an older format.
But when comparing FT2 and IT, FT2 allows almost any fuckups in the file and then saves it correctly whereas IT either crashes or saves a corrupt file.
Well, where are the format standards published? It could still be a problem with IT and not with MPT.
