i have been trying to troubleshoot a machine with a card GUS PNP with 8megs of ram

1) install dos floppy is 1.3megs (used this to install card)
2) install cdrom disc is a lot bigger. (did not use this cd)

i used the install floppy only. upon setup every test passes and reboots the PC. but none of my DOS game detects the card. if i setup gravis on Doom setup...i only hear gunshots but no music.

If i run an .exe file on the ultrasnd folder, games start to detect it and play music (commander keens, wolf3d) ..
But some games will still don't work..doom will have no sound afer i run the exe from gravis.

I read there is something that i need to install that is on the CD rom drivers. but the cd is full of folders and files and i dont know which it is supposed to be, some kind of Loader to make GUS CLASSIC compatibility.

does anyone know? that can share more info of what i am missing?

You're missing the ultrasound patchset.
This is the same patchset as on the gravis ultrasound classic.

It is used by games to play music by preloading (required) instruments.
The whole thing is about 5.6MB and contains many .PAT files.

The GUS patch set is surely missing. Hearing the gunshot indicates that the card is working but it needs instruments for GUS MIDI music. Those are a few hundred .pat files in a folder and ultasnd.ini should point there IIRC.

Shame on us, doomed from the start
