I'm attempting to use the latest and greatest XUB R596+ that's patched for Windows 95, and with the HDD detection disabled in the BIOS (10GB HDD not detected, but the Quantum Fireball ST 3.5 Series 3.2GB got detected), the OS complains the HDD is in compatibility mode since the esdi_506.pdr detects the HDD with the CMOS string set to 0x12 (non-zero for full 32-bit compatibility, whereas zero means MS-DOS compatibility).

My question is: are there patches available for the esdi_506.pdr that has the CMOS string set to 0x90?

I had similar issues when I tried to use XTIDE Universal BIOS to boot OS/2 Warp 4..

Not that I know of. Windows 98SE get's all the hot chi.. err.. -patches-, I mean patches.. 😁
Seriously, though. I saw several Win95 threads in the last days.
I'm surprised that Windows 95 still has an user base. 😮

Anyway, I'll have a look at it. No promises, though. 😀

I'm going to assume the 10GB = primary master and 3.2GB = primary slave.

Try setting your primary master drive to Type 47/User Defined. Use 1024 cyl, 16 heads, 63 sectors (the XTIDE ROM will override this anyway). Reboot and see if Windows 95 handles the drive correctly.

The system can only have 1 hard drive at a time. Plus, I need to swap the IDE cables around or connect my CD drive to my AudioDrive ES1688F since the card has an ATAPI CD-ROM header (which is nice) since the HDD one is a single cable.

Plus, the system complains that there's no disk connected. I'll try that and see what happens.
