I recently pulled out my copy of The Summoning and tried installing it on my modern computer (USB floppy drive). It appeared to have installed fine, but I can't get it to run in either DOSBox or a DOS 6.22 install in VirtualBox. It seems like it might be having a problem with not recognizing the disk in the drive, through the emulator, but I don't recall this game having on-disk copy protection or requiring the disk in the drive to run.

In VirtualBox, I get the message "ERROR: Unable to run subprogram.", but in DOSBox I get a long string of random characters

Does anybody know what I might be doing wrong? Have my files become corrupted without somehow messing with the installation process?
