Hi all, im trying to use a large IDE hard drive but it freezes at the post when it gets to detecting the first primary hard drive and freezes at the part that says "press F4 to skip" nothing happens even after a long time and nothing happens if I press F4 or CTRL + ALT + DEL. If I use a small hard drive like the two 10GB HDDs I tested it with it finds them and continues, I have tried a 500GB/250GB/160GB/2x 120GB HDDs and in the bios everything is set to auto for the primary and secondary and I have the HDD connected to the primary IDE with no slave and the hard drives them selves are set to master. Im using 80 wire IDE cables and PIO is set to auto too. The motherboard is an Aopen AP58 Rev 1.3 and I cant find a complete manual for this board anywhere only one with 11 pages that is missing the rest and Aopens global website does not have one. If this is a bios/motherboard limitation would a bios flash help at all?

100% BIOS limit

Many times a BIOS upgrade does help with such limits, but keep in mind that 120+GB is waaaay too far from the socket 7 era. There were P3s that wouldn't recognize more than 32GBs. So yeah, try to find the latest BIOS for your board, but even if you succeed in doing so, odds are not in your favor.

If updating your BIOS does not help, you can often get the BIOS to accept the drive by using a hard drive tool to enable HBA to reduce the "apparent" size of the hard drive.

Of course, you will be still limited to what the BIOS will allow

if the newest available official bios doesn't fix the problem - there is very useful tool - Bios Patcher www.rom.by/articles/BP/index_english.htm.
I can confirm that it works wery well. I have "fixed" many Slot1/Socket 7 bioses with it. You need files from: http://www.rom.by/ (right side, in Bios Patcher section), and your bios saved by AWDFLASH or UNIFLASH tool.
