Hi guys
As the title says, what would be a good choice for a low profile AGP graphics card for a Pentium 4 PC running XP + Direct-X 9

I'm looking to play games circa 2000.

I have another faster XP PCI-e system for games later / more demanding than that era.

best regards
Rich

Thre is only one AGP slot, but I notice that one of the heatsinks on the motherboard (behind and to the left of the AGP slot) deliberately has a stepped shape so it could accommodate an AGP card with a heatsink/fan or a double width blanking plate if that is what you mean.

How do I post pics on here? I tried with the upload attachment button but it didn't work

What you want is a Radeon HD4350 AGP

Hmmm there don't seem to be any of those around in low profile AGP at the moment, the link you gave me is PCI-e, Even if it was AGP, and I am pretty new to all this so may I ask, isn't that card from around 2008, runs DirectX 10 and so a bit 'overkill' or 'not appropriate' for a system to play games from circa 2000.

Considering I also have another Windows XP system with PCI-e that currently has a Radeon X1850 and I was thinking I could maybe upgrade that to an X1950 or whatever the fastest DirectX 9 card would be - and there seem to be a lot of cheap PCI-e cards around compared to AGP ones...

Also the PSU in my slimline Compaq PC may not handle a really power hungry GPU?

Thanks for the advise though and no offense meant if I am talking nonsense here.

DirectX 10+ cards = no dithering in 16-bit modes and no win 9x support.

You're pretty much limited to Radeon 9600SE and GeForce 5200/5500/5700LE/6200.

I must be some kind of standard: the anonymous gangbanger of the 21st century.

Thanks for that. There is so much info out there when you google around, that it is hard to find out what you really need to know.

As I said, I was looking for something appropriate to the rig and games of that time, I have a couple other PCs that I can fit more powerful PCI-e cards so any 'limits' are not really a problem.

The Radeon 9600SE, Geforce 5200 and Geforce 6200 all seem readily available in low form factor AGP and there isn't a huge price difference between them.

From googling the Geforce 6200 seems the fastest of those. Are there any other factors such as compatibilty.
