I tested the Buran 0.9 bank with the Intro of Dark Forces. Unfortunately I recognized a problem with the "synth brass 1". It sounds off maybe due to a too high volume.
Maybe you can improve it for the final release.

Is it a clipping problem you experience ?

synth brass 1 is indeed one of the new instruments, this was newly synthesized.
As you may know the preset determines the amplifier gain and equalizer settings.
Are you testing on an X2 with the default preset ?

I will test in exactly the same setup, find a solution, and will report back ASAP

The volume seems to be wrong, no issues with clipping as far as I can say.
For the test I had to load a equalizer preset with less effects (Serdaco_LessIsMore) as my previous setting had too much chorus and reverb with the new soundbank.

Maybe you can tell us which instruments you changed so we can check the performance of these in some midi arrangements.
I reflashed the GUD 1.04 soundbank and I will stay with it for the moment.

most instruments, while having smaller tweaks, are still based on general user.

These synth intstruments are new, generated from scratch :
38-Synth Bass 1 (MOD)
50-Synth Strings 1 (MOD)
51-Synth Strings 2 (MOD)
62-Synth Brass 1 (MOD)
63-Synth Brass 2 (MOD)
80-Square Lead (MOD)
81-Saw Lead (MOD)

If the problem is only the volume/balance, I will try to change the balance to better suit the games.
The overall goal is to achieve the same balance as SC-55, but with its own sound characteristic
If in some cases the GUD instrument is preferred above the new synthesized, I can revert to that as well, of course

I agree the default setting has quite some reverb/chorus, this is also the case in X3MB.
I will try to provide a buran preset, but the optimal preset is depending on taste as well.
In general the more 'dry' presets were not received so positively

Ultimate Talkie DOS patch allows for GM soundtrack

Monkey Island is always sounding weird, if not used in MT32 mode with a real Mt32. I get also weird sound when i use only the SC55. MI is overly attached to the Mt32 ^^ 😘
