So, in my ongoing quest to build a Pentium III machine from my pile of spare parts, I seem to be having another issue. I am using a motherboard that I think had a Pentium II in it to begin with. I want to use the Pentium III 750MHz CPU I have. When I turn it on the first screen displays the CPU as "Pentium III CPU at 750MHz". Then shortly after that just before Windows 98 starts to load it displays the following in flashing text "UNKNOWN CPU ID, MISSING MICRO CODE". Once Windows has loaded when I check the System Properties it says "x86 Family 6 Model 8 Stepping 3". I have tried to identify the model of the motherboard without success, there is nothing written on it as far as I can tell that is a model number. The BIOS displays 2A69KL1A and I think the board is running the Intel 440BX/GX/ZX Chipset.
So I am left wondering if the board actually supports this CPU or not. I wish I had the manual for the motherboard. I can post pictures of the motherboard if it will help.
