Hi guys,

When Phantasmagoria reads the cd for cut scenes, I get a scratchy clicking noise while it plays and is accessing the disc. Besides that, the game runs perfectly outside of cut scenes. I’m playing on a 486DX2-66 with Original discs. Sound Blaster 16 works perfectly for every other game, including Phantasmagoria aslong as it’s not playing a cut scene. I’ve tried a 2x cdrom drive, and a 52x cdrom drive and both have the same issue.

any ideas? or anybody else have this problem? I’m on disc 3 now and it’s not that big a deal, but would be nice if I didn’t habe that noise during cut scenes

Tough to say. I beat the game not long ago on my DX2 system with no issue, 8x cd-rom and a vibra16S (genuine OPL3).

I would only be able to take wild guesses to try fixing this.. If you have a spare card I guess that could be worth a shot, but I figured that phantasmagoria cut-scenes were playing the sound directly through the cd-rom audio cable (though I may be wrong). Or maybe try a different IRQ on your sound card, I generally use 7, you never know when a game won't get along one or the other.

thanks for the suggestions, I tried a couple different IRQs but that didn’t change anything. I think the cdrom audio cable might be the problem. The connector fits for the 2X drive I have but the newer 52X has a different size connector so I’m not able to use the cable with the 52X drive. I ordered a new cable with the correct connector and maybe that will work 😀
