Wrong forum, if you are not a bot. Ask old hardware and driver/configuration questions in Marvin. This forum is for old Windows games on modern systems. Marvin, the Paranoid Android
A Voodoo Banshee 😜
since they're not part of the STB marketing scheme with the faces everyone's nostalgic over to a cult level, you should be able to buy them at sensible prices.
Prices for the Banshee are hovering in the 150 dollar mark
but is it similar to a Voodooo 2 or 3 card ?
It's more functionally and visually similar to a Voodoo3. It doesn't have multitexturing and it's clocked lower, but would be fine for lots of vertex lit stuff and DOS games.
$150 for a Banshee is by no means a reasonable price.
A Banshee is going to be about the same speed as a Voodoo 2 but with 2d also on the card. A Rush is the same as a Voodoo 1 with 2d on the same board.
I'm seeing Voodoo 3 cards going for less than that.
Guess I really should be happy that I really have all the 3dfx cards I want and got most of them for pretty cheap in the not to distant past.
With prices like they are, I would just use a Glide wrapper and not even buy a 3dfx card.. wait and watch for some to be listed a lot cheaper.
The prices are high on ebay for the Banshee well at least up here in Canada.
I actually have a Radeon 9200SE on my P2 300 system but I can't get 3d graphics to work on any of the Need For Speed games, this is the reason I'm looking for a different card that can do 3d in Windows 98 games

An Nvidia TNT2 or GeForcew 2 MX family can be had for less than £10 but are competitors to a Voodoo 3. The TNT was a contemporary competitor released a month or so after the voodoo 3. The MX was released a few years later as a budget option and I think will perform similarly, but better than, both.
Obviously both of these won't have glide support. If you need this consider an Nvidia FX5200 / Fx5500 (again, less than £20), with nglide, which adds/emulates glide support to other graphics cards through DirectX or OpenGL (I don't know much about nglide).
edit: Let's get the stupid questions out the way first though: Which NfS game? 3 and later have a setup.exe where you can specify which display driver to use; make sure it is on DirectX not software renderer! NfS 2SE only supports software and Glide, and getting glide working needs renaming the exe:

I think nfs 2 standard edition and below can't do any accelerated graphics.

That too, of course; I assumed he wanted to remain mostly period correct. nGlide won't give you that lovely characteristic 3dfx smear filter though. 😀
I'm lucky in that I got my Voodoo 3 new around the time it came out, and I somehow managed to keep it this entire time - and it still works.

I saw a banshee up for 20 euros shipped just last december, and it took a moment to sell. I looked at it a couple times and said nah, as did many others.

Yup, I bought a lot on ebay auction. Got my voodoo 3000 for about 11 euros. I sent a tip to the seller afterwards... Yeah
