Finally found a IO shield for my Intel Advanced/ML board

Those are "standard" ATX shields.

I thought the standard IO shield was like

PS2------------LPT----------JOYSTICK---
PS2--USB--COM---COM---AUDIO PORTS

The key word I used was BEFORE. The one Windows9566 linked was the very first version. USB killed that version.

You only ever see the first version on early Pentium motherboards (and Pentium Pro).

The new old stock 486 motherboards from Ukraine arrived today 😁

The box was a bit ripped but they were well packed and it's weird seeing a 486 motherboard look this new & clean. The one on the left I already have and bought solely to have a read of and digitise the manual, since that's not online in its complete form anywhere.

Now to see if I can get PS/2 mouse working on the FIC 486 VIP IO2 board by just adding the headers. I spent all that time trying to fix that Asus PVI-486SP3 board and now a good source of equally capable boards has appeared 😁

Thanks to the kind souls on Vogons who gave me the heads up to the eBay seller selling these blank back plates for real cheap!

Does anyone happen to have the blueprints for an AT backplate? What diameter hole, at what location etc? Also, what do I cut a backplate with? Some Dremel drill pit would do?

That barrel battery in a spot where a CR2032 battery should be is by far the most stupid thing I've seen today.

Who thought that would be an great idea? Especially since these are notorious to leak and kill traces.

No worries, this way you could at least print yourself a paper template. I would send you one, but I don't even have enough for my motherboards unfortunately.

No need, punching a hole in these shouldn't be too hard, I just need to know where and how big 😀

At least they're easy to desolder and replace with a regular CR2032 holder 😀

The barrel battery on the MS-4143 is juuuust about to leak, just like my other one - that's getting removed and replaced this evening.

For the ATX to AT backplate, I measured that a couple of weeks ago while making some up from similar blank ATX plates, try these dimensions:

Just got the Asus P/1-P55T2P4.

It has 256KB of on board cache and has COAST slot for additional 256KB of cache... and i apparently had one of these just laying around from decades ago!

Nice board, lots of voltage regulation options, fsb and multiplier setting etc.

Downsides are that it doesn't accept SDRAM and it has dallas chip. Otherwise it could replace my Pentium machine's motherboard. (I'm keeping 386, 486 and P1, one of each for myself and everything excess goes to trading and to museums)

Got it from auction site, probably it would have went to landfill, but i was able to save it for few bucks. 😀 (And it also had 2x8MB 72pin ram, never hurts...)

It has 256KB of on board cache and has COAST slot for additional 256KB of cache...

Tip: COAST module usually indicates early revision of the board, they are not AMD K6plus friendly.
