Those old caddy-loading ODDs aren't something you see anymore... Let along SCSI ones.

Speaking of SCSI, I just scored a nice lot for 30 euros, included in it was :
- Two SCSI HDDs (One IBM and one Hitachi, I'm planning to buy a Seagate Elite 47 to go with these two oddballs)
- Some SCSI cables with a SCSI connector on a PCI bracket, termination "dummy plugs" and some adapters
- Two Adaptec SCSI cards (one AHA-2940U2W and the other an AVA-series card that I can't remember the model on top of my head.)

As usual, I'll post pics once I'll receive the lot, I'm quite worried about the drives arriving in one piece (that'd be fun to defragment them if they arrive smashed up and fragmented... Get it?) since the parcel is coming from Brittany.. It's not going to take as long as my other parcel did (that other parcel came from Gironde)

Yeah, the CDROM drive in my Macintosh TV died. I had to find a NEW one. I tried all kinds of Apple CDROM’s but could not find one that fits. The Apple Macintosh TV requires a slot loading because the front cover has a small slot and then the rear connectors need to be specific to this computer. A real pain to try to replace if you don’t have original Apple components.

Nothing like building a Retro 486 or Super socket-7 in an Aluminum case.
I hate cutting myself on those Sharpe edges of cheap cases.

Naa... Give me real steel plates. Alu are too light. Unless the aluminium are more than 3 mm thick.

I don't know. It needs to be a "Sony Caddy CD-ROM CDU561-25 SCSI 50 pin"
It mainly has to do with the orientation of the rear connectors. There are special adapters that need to fit.

First buy of the year!

It's an Intel-made "Venus" motherboard, aka VS440FX. ATX, Socket 8. The owner was selling it together with a Pentium Pro CPU (I have three of those) and I persuaded him to sell it without the chip. The board with 64MB of EDO RAM and some extra sticks cost me 5 bucks!

I'm mostly using my Pentium III@800 build these days and I have an LPX system with Pentium Pro, so I couldn't easily justify this purchase. However I like Socket 8, I like ATX and I have a soft spot for Intel motherboards.

My plan is to use it as a testing system for my Gravis Ultrasound PnP Pro. I had the card for a year but believe it or not, I've never used it as a single soundcard. My plan is to test it with as many games and demos as possible, try out various sound patches and tweaks, check the GUS Classic compatibility. I hope it will result in a gaming-oriented HOWTO because so far all the information I've seen is pretty scattered and not obvious for people who are used to SoundBlaster and its clones (like me).

Will see! I've already tested the motherboard and can confirm that it's working. Next step is to get a simple Windows 95 system up and running and get down to tinkering with GUS.

Bought this stuff back in November/December... DHL lost the package. It was found couple of days ago and arrived today...

The parts are basically brand new and never used - some company never picked up the PC they ordered so it was sitting in the storage of some guy until I bought it. It's missing HDD and PSU.

Unfortunatelly case was slightly dammaged in shipping but nothing visible (just some cracked studs on the back of the front panel). Case, although it's new as well, needs slight cleaning - I will do it tomorrow…

It started leaking. But it didn't got onto the PCB yet. I will desolder it tomorrow

Cut the battery off of the legs first. A battery can and will explode at anytime when desoldering it.

Sony Vaio Picturebook PCG-C1VPK. Offered $40 and the seller accepted. Looks like it needs a hard drive, which I already have to fit it. Hmm, Windows ME or 2000? Originally it came with ME, but later offered Win2k. Or maybe if I can find a restore disc with all the original software.. because dat Jog Dial.

Desoldered dozens of them in various conditions. Never happend. But I do have some experience with the iron and it takes just a second to desolder each terminal...

Pretty sure I have restore CDs that will work with that. Not sure if it is the same exact model. Either way, I should have all the drivers and such as I have a few different models from that series. I'll double check my restore CDs this weekend and try to get them uploaded somewhere. Not sure if my Google Drive has enough space left or not.
