Hey,

When I play some music with MPXplay in DOS there is no audio output, only in 8-bit SB mode.

MPXplayer
SB settings A220 I5 D0 = OK
WSS settings A530 I5 D0 no audio out
With other setting DMA 1, 3 Adress 560 still no oudio out.
MPXplay -SCS SBP = OK but initialize 40 secs long
DSSplayer same problem only SB mode and cannot detect WSS adress

PC:
Toshiba Tecra 8000
Toshiba S300CDT (same situation)
Freedos and MPXplay

BIOS sound options
WSS 530
SB 220
MIDI 388
WSS or SB I5
WSS or SB D1
REC WSS or SB D0
538
330

I see no DMA 2 mode in bios, WSS is 16 bit.

8 bit has to low S/N ratio (Noise)

I think you have to set up your high DMA channel to get 16 bit sound. Without knowing what sound card it is exactly, I can't say how to do that.

You'll want to run Yamaha's DOS sound utility on those Toshibas, that will set up the mixers and whatnot and possibly will get sound going.

One other person had a problem with resource conflicts, apparently BIOS does nothing to prevent those.

I have had some success in the past with using the "-sct wss" option to get MPXPLAY to perform more thorough initialization/testing.

Still trying,

In this situation there are 2 soundcard modes:
1 = soundblaster pro 8 bit mode (emulated by yamaha soundchip) (DMA 5,6,7 is only for SB16 mode)
2 = WSS 16 mode

1 = A220 I5 D1
2 = A530 I5 D1

Inertia player is working on both laptops in WSS mode.
A530 I7 or I10 D1 in 16bit 48KHz!

MPXplay -sct
WSS SET ULTRA16=530,1,0,0 (IRQ1 ??? maybe mpx don't understand)
SBP SET BLASTER=A220 I0 D1 T4

still testing...

Problem solved !

Start mpxplay -scvom 100 ( set mainvolume to 100% )

Both laptops working in WSS 16-bit mode and SBP 8-bit mode.

(tested with MPXplay DOS/32A version)
