Hey folks, hoping to sort out an issue I've been experiencing with the Geforce MX4000 PCI I recently installed in my win98 machine.

The card seems to have issues with anything requiring any DirectX older than 7 (maybe?), and has some issues displaying menus, and some games are 100% unplayable:

  • Sega Rally - Once fullscreen, the game flickers and glitches regardless of resolution chosen. Unplayable! Installer wanted Dx3.
  • Terminator Future Shock - Higher resolution resulted in the following in the menu screen - flicker, offset, and scaling issues with all graphics.
  • X-Wing (Collectors Series 1998, this one runs in windows) - Once game engine loads, entire game flickers, including menus. Once exiting the game engine back to "concourse", flicker stops.
  • Quake 2 is OK, build engine games are OK, Tie Fighter is OK, so long as I choose software rendering (of course). 2D games are 100%.

Flicker isn't something monitor-related, the flicker is anywhere between 5hz to 10hz and is incredibly jarring. I just purchased a different nVidia FX5200 PCI card in the case I need to just find a replacement.

I will be trying more games this evening and endeavoring to help answer folks if they have additional questions.
