Hello everybody. And sorry in advance for my bad english.
I'm not new to that board but until today i was only reading, not posting. And it often helped with problems regarding old hardware. But now i am trying to find a solution for a really weird problem and can't find any working solution with searching.

My old (rebuild) PC features an Gigabyte 586TX3 mainboard with 32MB Ram, an Pentium MMX 233, an Elsa Victory Erazor graphics card and an Soundblaster 32 PnP (ct3620), runs really good with DOS and Windows95C.
Now i got some 30pin SIMMs for the Soundblaster card, so i can load Soundbanks and use the midi functions in Windows. And thats where the trouble started.
I installed all drivers from the original CD and everything went right. Under DOS the diagnose.exe finds the card and also the 512kb RAM is detected. AWEUTIL lets me enable midi emulation and load the synthgm.sbk soundbank.
But when i start windows, i always get the message "Cannot load default sythesizer bank **Read error in <path to SYNTHGM.SBK> **" . Trying to load the soundbank with AWE32 controlpanel gives the message "The selected file contains unrecognized format! Current operation will be aborted."
To solve the problem, i updated the drivers, used different SYNTHGM.SBK (got those from philscomputerlab). Nothing works.
The same with the GS and MT32 soundbanks.
But if i try to use some other, user defined soundbanks, that fit in 512kB, it (often) works. After loading the synthesizer works, like it should.
Anyone got an idea, what could cause the issues? I also tried a new, clean intallation of windows. Did not help.
Thanks in advance.

Just to let you know. After upgrading to 8 MB of Ram the error was gone. Even if it should have worked with the 512 kByte, i did not.

CT36xx series does not have onboard RAM memory, only ROM.

I must be some kind of standard: the anonymous gangbanger of the 21st century.

Yes. Thats why i did put 512k Ram on it. But seems, that it was not enough for the card to work correctly. Now that i use two 4MB Simms, everything works without any error.

256kb modules were probably rated 80ns or worse.

There are two different versions of the CT3600. One with no onboard RAM, and one with 512KB onboard RAM.
