Those are more stressful on power draw.

On SS7 machines, I have had the following cards running stable and good.

- Matrox G400 and G400-Max
- Voodoo3-3500
- Voodoo2-SLI
- TNT2-Pro and Ultra
- Geforce2-GTS

Shure there are speed differences. The cards listed have all behaved stable on SS7.
That is on both VMP-3 and Ali-V. Just make shure you run the correct chipset drivers as well.
And as it is SS7 system's, I have always been running eighter DX6 or DX7.

EDIT:
And as it is SS7, then it fits right in with late-era Dos and early-era Win98 games.
If you plan to use early Dos era too, then you might want to go for Voodoo3 cards.
Make shure that the voltage regulator on the motherboard, can handle V3's power draw.
If not, then go for V2 and combine with a card that are close to 100% compatible with Dos.

It's hard to find Geforce2 MX here. Is this card good?

In NL Gf2MX cards are so common you can't even give them away...

AGP 1.0 (2x) and 3.0 (8x) aren't electrically compatible, so no. Also (for that reason) the card physically won't fit into the slot.

AGP 2.0 (4x) will work in AGP 1.0 slots.

Very true but the GA-5AA is a good board and will not have a problem. I benchmarked a lot with mine with GF2 Ti and Geforce3 ti500 (and other cards as well).

Well, I tried these in Win9x:
Matrox G400 32MB worked great and super stable after soldering an smd jumper to force it using AGP 2X but no DVD acceleration.
Geforce FX 5500 256MB 128bit/MX4000 worked fine with old 5x.xx driver and supported DVD acceleration.
Radeon 92xx 128MB worked only in VGA 16-color mode because none of the drivers worked for it.
Radeon 7000 64MB worked but not stable at all...

I have an ASUS P5A and I think 3dfx AGP cards are the only guaranteed stable option.

For DVD playback the 3dfx cards have limited acceleration, but tend to work well assuming a fast CPU, because they program the CPU and AGP registers for high performance. And don't freeze the system in this configuration. Radeons and specifically Geforce 4 MX have excellent DVD acceleration too. GF4MX was also notebook targetted so they included iDCT acceleration to reduce CPU load and thus save energy, atypical for Nvidia back then. Rage 128 is also superb for DVD, but is definitely problematic on a Super 7 system.

For DVD I also suggest looking into Software Cinemaster 99.

For 3D and a K6-level CPU, you will do very well with a Voodoo3/4/5. Glide is less demanding of the CPU than D3D/OGL (think of Vulkan/Mantle/D3D12) and many games back then were really designed for 3dfx in general. 3dfx drivers are quite optimized for the platform too, from 3DNow to Super 7 AGP register settings and CPU MTRR setup. Even Direct3D games were mostly targeting Voodoo cards up thru 1999. 3dfx AGP cards don't cause AGP problems because they don't use most AGP features. Great for those flaky Super 7 AGP slots.

I know that having DirectX 7, 8 and 9 support is super tempting and exciting, but it will be pretty useless on even the fastest K6. The fastest overclocked K6-3+ CPUs struggle with 1998-1999 games.

I didn't have any AGP power issue with GA-5AA or Jetway 542B at all. The problem is graphic drivers.
For now, FX5500 with 5x.xx driver worked fine for me 😀

Sorry for the bump, but why? I was planning to upgrade my VGA card to a "Axle Nvidia 6200A 512MB 64BIT DDR2 (directx 9) DVI Agp 8X" one. Isn't that card supported by Win98SE?

It didn't work for me. Take 5 series e.g. FX5500. Maybe 6200 DDR AGP works too.
