After 2+ years of having an IPOD full of music I've finally gotten around to sorting through it. It was pretty easy, just copy MP3's to the IPOD untill it was full. Listen to the music while driving/watching movies, then rate or not rate the music, then move the rated/unrated music back to the my HD into LIKE/DISLIKE folders, then repeat the process 2 more times. Yoah! Tons of work......Anyway after all of that I've slimmed it down to 11gb of 2,000 music files. There are still some duplicates in there that I've got to delete mabye about a 100mb or so....

Anyways, I'm wondering what to do with the extra 25gb....

I was debating figuring out a way to boot knoppix/bartpe from it but:

1. I don't know how.
2. I'm afraid I'll be unable to use the IPOD as a music device and from booting knoppix/bartpe.
3. Not sure how much wear and tear this will introduce to the IPOD HD.

So if I cannot do the above then I was thinking of using the IPOD in conjunction with Knoppix/BARTPE CD for recovery and gaming situations and for my important documents and drivers (obviously I'll have a backup elsewhere).

So:

1. DosBox and Dos Games.

(Currently I have my DOS games on my external USB HD and I don't like letting linux write to my NTFS drive and I hate copying my DOS games over when I already have them all on my NTFS drive.....the IPOD is already using FAT32).
2. MAME and any other emulator I can think of....
3. Important documents and files (encrypted of course)
4. Drivers
5. Only have a 4gen Ipod so can't view pictures/videos on the IPOD. Darn...there's goes my ummm...special/video pics. 😏
6. Any program that's too big to fit on my bartpeCD....I can just load it off of my IPOD instead. Sweeeettt. 25gb! Bigger than a BARTPE DVD! Like I said above though I'll have to make sure these apps don't access the hard drive too much......

What else? Any suggestions?

Just to let you know, if you don't allready, you can install linux in your ipod (http://ipodlinux.org/) thought is not yet supported for 4gen or plus generations. There are many cool features, and some ideas not yet implemented that would/will make this the best OS for ipods; you can even play videos on 4gen (greyscale, of course) and photo ipods. But right now the apple firmware is still the best.I'm waiting for mpd support on 4gen so i can get rid of that horrible gaps between tracks problem (shame on apple). There's also http://www.rockbox.org/, also GPLed, they support iriver, Archos, iAudio X5, and are porting rockbox to the ipod, they also aim to gapless playback.
What to do with the space left?Maybe some audiobooks...if you like that.

Thats right, i like beer, so don't give any fancy liqueurs, i also like wisky, old scotch and bourbon, and rum, and some days, anything strong.

I'm in the process of getting, if you know what i mean, some Asimov audiobooks, including a BBC Foundation adaptacion, i never listen to an audiobook, i guess it will make me sleep faster then a real book.
Hey! Harry Potter!!! What the f***?
Yeah, allright, i've read one or two, they're vicious.

edit:spelling errors, i'm not used to write in english.

There is one practical problem with using an IPod for DOSBox and DOS Games, it only has five buttons. While that is good for playing many Atari 2600 games, it just isn't enough for most games that require a keyboard and a mouse or joystick to play.
