I bought it because the software CD includes a rare-as-heck soft synth: Faith WebSynth D-77 (GM/GS compatible and something called "+ alpha", 674 variations, reverb/chorus). 😎
This is only included with Onkyo's older sound cards, that lack a Windows XP logo on the box.

Can you image that CD and upload to vogonsdrivers or upload it somewhere else and share so I can upload it?

Already uploaded zips of the Faith WebSynth packages and installation documentation yesterday:

Depends on what 500 you have, and if you use an Gary-adaptor or not. I used it in my 500 rev 8a.1 machine, and in stock configuration, and without any Gary-adaptor, it will only alocate as SlowRam. If I used the Gary-adaptor, then I would pump ChipRam to 1mb and then have 1,5mb SlowRam. Then I bought an TF-530 accelerator, and the troubles began. However, they were somewhat easy to solve. The problem with the accelerator that I bought and an Gary adaptor combination. Was that the accelerator's firmware conflicted with an Gray adaptor. It would address both memory expansions at the same adress space. And the only way around, was to max out ChipRam on the motherboard it self. This is also known as a ChipRam mod. And doing that, the motherboard will adress the trapdoor expansion as ChipRam, without the use of an Gary-adaptor. The problem is, that the last 1mb can not be used in my Amiga500. Yet I can now use the 2mb FastRam on the Accelerator, without it conflicting with the BooBip expansion. I have it described in more detail's on my blog, if you want to see some pictures of my solution. If you are not using an TF-530, then you have no issue at all. The TF-534 is actually avaliable on Amibay now, and there should not be any issues regarding memory conflict anymore.

Won a VooDoo2 card on eBay finally and it'll arrive by tomorrow. Got outbidded on a new in box Creative Labs Video Blaster MPEG decoder ISA card. At least there are Sigma Designs RealMagic cards available online. The reason I needed an MPEG card is because my 486's video card doesn't do MPEG very well and I have 1 game that supports it: King's Quest VI: Heir today, gone tomorrow for DOS and Windows.

OMG, that case is hideous! I love it!

It is a mistake to think you can solve any major problems just with potatoes.

Yes i know that, this is the only way to get the 1meg chipram over the trap door. It's kind of a conversion into an A500+.

Interesting that the TF-534 does not have this issue anymore. Would be interesting if there are any issues with 68HC000 turbo cards...

That case was a nightmare to build a computer in. That is what I remember, from when I made computers for a living from 2003 to 2006.

Got this motherboard with Pentium Pro @ 150mhz for cheap:

The attachment Untitled.jpg is no longer available

Has 3x ISA, not sure what all those slots are on the left, different RAM slots?

Not sure what to expect for performance on this vs Pentium MMX.

Will think about dual booting Win3.1 / Win98se. Any recommendations for games that will run good on this rig?

Yes. Different memory slots. Win98SE will be fine. Pentium Pro is a tad slower in 16-bit games, but DOS4GW based games will run great. I used a Pentium Pro 200/256K system as my main DOS/WIN gaming rig for most of the late 90s and it handled everything very well. That Dallas battery will probably need replacing and it looks socketed so an easy thing to do on that board. This would be an excellent replacement for the Dallas so you can just buy off the shelf coin cell batteries:

Edit: Wait a minute, that's a Socket 7 board, not a Socket 8. Did you just post the wrong photo?

Speaking of which, haven't heard from you in a great while. When do you get to finally play with your Socket 8 toys?

Ah no worries, for $20 all-in still not bad. Since it's Socket 7, do you guys think a DX4 100mhz would be faster than the CPU that's in there? I have a spare Am486DX4-100 kicking around

Sorry, but socket 7 doesn't take 486-class cpus. Only Pentium ..

If it's dual it's kind of cool ... 😎

More or less. Yes. Though you need a true 8a.1 or 8a board and have the onboard mem upgraded to 1mb, then you need a kickrom 2.x and finally make sure that the chipset is a full ECS. Other than that, then yes. It is same spec's, memory wise, as an 500+

Like this one here....

You can read a bit more about the 534 here...

From the page:
....we found bugs and reported these to Steve, he reproduced and corrected them, also we tested different Zorro II boards like Kipper2k 8Mb ram, Combitec 8Mb, HC+8MB. Theoretically it should work with other RAM cards too, however we don't own them to test...
