Cross flashing an Intel BIOS on a Dell board isn't for the faint of heart. The risk of bricking the BIOS is high as you have to use the board's emergency BIOS recovery mode. I managed to do it with the Dell version of the D845PT found in a Dimension 4400, so its possible. Generally Dell mirrors Intel's releases, in theory the A11 BIOS should be the same "core" BIOS as Intel's P11 BIOS given the release dates.

I wouldn't recommend a crossflash for this board anyway. The Dell version lacks on-board audio and one DIMM slot, changes that could have resulted in a BIOS different enough that the Intel version could break things.

There is no support for Tualatin for the Dell Dimension 4100. You'll need one of those pin-modded CPUs from eBay if you want to run a Tualatin.

Just got word from the South Korean guy on ebay and he hooked me up with a simplified version of the crossflash with really good instructions. Wish me luck!

Ok here is what I have discovered so far, the Tualatin must be pin-modded to work (I picked mine up from the Korean guy on Ebay for $30 shipped) and Dell did not enable support for the chip in their version of the Bios. Old Dell community posts full of dead links hint that through a rather difficult bios flash with the Intel bios and a pin-modded Tualatin it should be possible to upgrade to the ultimate P3 chip. I will keep this thread updated as I find out more and document the steps I take to fail or succeed.

Just a quick update, I want to mention that a pin-modded cpu does not work with this motherboard. Still on my long list of projects to work on to try that Bios cross-flash, have not forgotten!

I read those they don't really say much. Ive bought this modded p3 http://www.ebay.com/itm/Tualatin-P-IIIs-1-4GH … Q0AAOxyRhBSxjSY witch is not working for it. Im really thinking its because this board dosnt support any pentium II processors, look at the powerleap adapters for the bx motherboards all of them show the pentium 3-s as pentium II @ 1.4GHz. So if I could find a modified bios with added support then it should post with the adapter.

YA it is possible to flash the intel bios I ended up finding out, tracked down the bios, but did not feel comfortable enough to risk bricking the board. It would not be a big deal, but the bios is soldered to the motherboard 😒 dont want to risk it.

The only work around this I believe is to add the 1.4 tualatin code to the bios file before flashing it.

Sorry for the necro (again) but I think I'm gonna be the one to try this out in a little bit. A bricked BIOS probably means like $40 spent on a new motherboard, which I don't mind that much.

I've succeeded in flashing the D815EEA BIOS (version P10) onto my 4100!

I did some sleuthing. The .zip up above will not work: it is missing a couple files. I found the .exe to create a working BIOS floppy and have uploaded it as an attachment.

The instructions are similar to what's in the .zip:

• remove the BIOS jumper to set the machine to recovery mode,
  insert the floppy and power on,
  wait while while the drive grinds and then stops for a bit. You will hear 2 beeps.
  Keep waiting, more drive activity follows. 2 more beeps.
  Once it's done, hold the power button to turn it off,
  unplug, remove the CMOS battery for 15 seconds, reinsert the battery and the BIOS jumper in its original position,
  reboot.

It remains to be seen whether this is enough for Tualatins to work. I'm thinking more than likely. I've messaged the guy selling the pin-modded Tualatins just to be sure.
