Is yours the same problem? Is it only the later FMVs that are failing for you?

Certainly we had someone in the past with a similar problem who fixed it by burning a new copy of their cd.

I had been running the SoldOut version for a while and realised it was one of those without the audio, so I burnt a copy to include the missing sound files and everything worked fine with using Glidos. I went back to the game after a short while and this problem started. I tried using my old SoldOut CD but the problem remained. I haven't tried running the game with the original release version yet. I was planning on getting that at some point anyway. I don't know if that will make a difference though considering I've tried both these CDs I have. Both of which have run fine before.

I was going to try burning a new CD initially, but how can I do that? The software I used to burn the CD I'm running was a trial version and I can no longer run it. Would I be able to still do it with something?

I don't think there is any point in trying another CD if two with quite different hostory faile, but there is still the possibility of a problem with the drive.

Do all FMVs fail for you?

No I've said when the FMVs fail for me, at the end of 'Tomb of Tihocan' and from then on - Whenever there's a cut-scene/FMV it simply crashes. FMV/cut-scenes before that level work fine. It's so frustrating why would it do this.

You've said, have you? The user "Guest" has said a great many things in these forums. Its a littel difficult to keep track.

How many people do I have here with this problem? I'm pretty sure someone said all FMVs and someone else said only later ones.

In my case - it looks like all of the FMV's have failed

Including the one at the beginning when you start TR, and the one when you start a new game?

Sort of - they play for like a second and then the sound goes weird and then the game crashes

Ok, that used to happen for some people when I first introduced VESA support, but only on machines that didn't have the grunt to keep up. Its strange to see that on modern machines.

Also setting "VESASupport: No" turns off Glidos's VESA support, and then Glidos is not involved during the FMVs (you can tell when Glidos is not involved because the FMVs display as lines of colour with black inbetween).

For some reason your system is having trouble keeping up with the FMVs, and it probably has nothing to do with Glidos.

- 3.06 GHz genuine intel P4 HT processor,
- ATI Mobility Radeon 9600 Graphics card

anything else i should include?

If your system doesn't play the FMVs with the Glidos VESA option turned off, then it means your graphic driver/chipset doesn't have any native support for good old VESA graphic modes (or that VESA support is flimsy) and there's not much that can be done to fix that.

I have a Radeon 9600 with the latest Catalyst drivers, and I don't have any problem related to FMVs. You might want to update yours, just to be on the safe side.

Oh I'm really sorry I didn't mean to confuse you! I didn't realise, yes there's only been two people having the problem. My problem is with the later FMVs. I've had them all running previously and now after 'Tomb of Tihocan' the cut scenes/FMVs crash. Again sorry,

i see - well i did upgrade to the latest DNA drivers - and they are supposed to be better than the Catalyst drivers....

Is there an FMV at the end of Natla's mines?

DNA drivers? They may well be less stable. Did you have these problems before swapping to DNA?

I still suspect the CD or the drive with this one. Perhaps the original disc has a problem that has been copied across during burning. Or your drive could be having problems that show up only as you step towards the centre of a CD. The thing is Glidos cannot really behave differently for different FMVs, so it has to be elsewhere. TR itself can get upset if something slows it down so that it cannot play the movies at full speed. It can crash in those circumstances. A problem with your sound card could do it too.

Oh, there is one way Glidos could be the cause. Glidos pushes a computer hard, and if your cooling isn't adequate then your computer could overheat, and that can cause instability.

Could well be the problem... or not. Certainly its a less tried environment for Glidos to run. And messing up VESA support is a common mistake in the development of drivers.
