I've been try to play outcast under windows xp but I haven't been able to get it to work at any resolution but the lowest, 320x240. When I start at any other resolution the game plays the opening videos, then goes black and crashes back to the desktop.

I have Outcast with the latest patch.
Any ideas?
Has anyone gotten this game working fully under xp?

ASUS MOTHERBOARD
AMD 3200+ 2.00 GHz
1.00 GB RAM DDR
ATI 9800 XP PRO
AC97 SOUND
WINDOWS XP SP2

Try disabling effect called something like "field of view" or "depth of field" in launcher. I recall that with this effect only 320x240 mode worked for me.
