Dear Sirs,

I'd like to play some of my games form ISO, CUE/BINs with Redbook Audio on my Win98 SE machine. I've tried Daemon-Tools v3.16 and Alcohol120 v1.9.5 (as the latest versions of those CD emulators for Win98).

I hear the music through Win98 CD player, but when accessing the same CD (browsing folders, opening files) music jumps to the next track! Same thing happens ingame.

My results are (tried different formats):

  • Virtua Cop (NRG image) (full install - the game runs off HDD never addressing data from CD) - Music plays like charm. Game completable.
  • Sonic CD (MDF/MDS) - No music, game slows to a crawl. Game does not see CD with Alcohol120.
  • WinQuake (BIN/CUE) - No music at all.

Would you please advice how to make the music work for those games?
(real CD is not an option at the moment - sourcing parts for CD-to-SB16 cable is somewhat of a hassle)

My specs should work pretty good with CD emulation:

  • Win 98SE
  • Celeron 1000 (Coppermine)
  • Intel 440BX (possibly 440ZX?)
  • 80Gig HDD
  • 256 MB RAM
  • ISA SoundBlaster 16 (CT2770)
  • Voodoo3 3000
  • No CD-ROM

I am grateful for any useful advice.

The audio cable is pretty simple you can find them by searching for "dupont".

The latest version of Daemon Tools for Windows 98 is 3.47
The latest version of Alcohol 120 for Windows 98 is v1.9.5.3105

Did you make sure the CD drive is set to D:?

SB 16 needs Dupont ➡ JST PH 2.0 cable. I'll purchase the parts and solder the thing together.

Trouble is that there is no radio-shack in my neck of the woods (Eastern Europe... VERY eastern). Shall take months postage time or a really inquisitive stroll through local electronics flea-market.

The virtual CD-drive is E: (as C: and D: are logical partitions of HDD). Music works in Virtua Cop both on Alcohol 120 and Daemon Tools... but not in other games.

Just connected a real CD-ROM... I can't hear it, BUT IT DOES SKIP TO THE NEXT TRACK!
Damn, I'm confused. 😕
