Nice looking machine. I had one similar (Pavilion 7130p), and it was the world's biggest piece of shit. The stupid PCI/ISA riser would come loose all the time and freeze the computer or make it restart randomly. I eventually got so pissed off at it, that I pulled the useful stuff from it, and took a sledgehammer to the remains of it.

I hated everything about that thing.

Don't know why ISA nic is recommended. PCI nics should play nicely with it. First thing I'd do is dump the modem.

There's a glitch in the matrix.

Of course, as always, I'm open to correction...😉

looks like's a fine Dos gaming PC, The Voodoo1 matches it nicely.
If you were short on PCI slots I wouldn't worry about upgrading the graphics. The on board S3 is really good for pure dos with great compatibility if you check the table in the link below.

I'm guessing the ISA nic is recommended due to the fact both PCI slots are full, In which case I'd agree. otherwise it doesn't really make much difference if using PC or ISA, I'd always recommend using existing stock or what can be had cheap.

Personally I'd go with Win95 OSR2.1 but skip installing IE4 (either by removing the CD after setup completes or not copying the cab files across if installing from the HDD.)
You get Fat32, and Win95 is a nicer OS for system management and networking and slightly better memory management then dos 6.22

But if after full nostalgia experience dos 6.22 and WFW 3.11 can still be made to talk to modern OS's

This is extremely similar to the Micronics build I did. I also set it up similarly.

Intel Pentium P54c 200MHz
64MB (16MBx4) EDO SIMM memory
Micronics M55HI+ (Socket 7)
ATI Rage IIc PCI graphics card (motherboard has no integrated graphics)
Diamond Monster 3D 4MB PCI Voodoo1 card
SMC 10/100 Ethernet PCI network card
Motherboard has built-in Creative Labs Vibra16 ISA-bus sound chip
Windows 95 OSR2

If my MB had a built-in S3 graphics chip, I would have completely skipped wasting a PCI slot on the ATI Rage card and just used that. It's supposed to have great DOS gaming performance, as the above poster said. I really don't have any ISA cards worth a damn, so it is what it is. I'd have used a slot for a sound card had one not been included on the motherboard.

It's a good little "Early Win95/MS-DOS" gaming system. I plan to use it on my Twitch channel to run retro PC games. Between it and my Win98se gaming rig (with dual Voodoo2s and a TNT2 AGP card), it should be awesome retro gaming for all 11 followers I have. 🤣

In case anyone cares, on Twitch I call myself the "BeardedRetroGuy".

I had an Aopen PT75 Plus S3 ViRGE/GX in the machine because I wanted to have 4 MB and plus I needed to see if the card worked.
