VOGONS

I have two Voodoo 1 cards, both "seem" to not work or broke, but I don't believe that. I know it is possible but the seller on ebay stated he tested it working before sale. He has a 100%-99% rating and many ratings and accepts returns so I tend to believe it.

I'm using, as the topic says, an ASUS P3B-F w/ two ISA slots. I have an unlocked P2 400 and have ran it at both 66MHz and 100MHz, although I still with 66MHz.
A voodoo rush works fine in it, quite well actually but DOS compatibility sucks. Although I could put a Voodoo 3 3000 AGP, I'm going with more DOS with voodoo 1 capabilities.

Here is a list of things that I have tried although there maybe others:
-Used the following 2D capable cards:
Diamond Stealth 64 Video 2001 PCI S3Trio64+ (Desired primary 2D card)
nvidia TNT (Diamond Viper V550) AGP
Matrox G2 AGP
Voodoo 3 3000

With the Diamond Stealth 64 and Voodoo 1, I tried probably every combo of PCI slots. With the AGP cards, the Voodoo 1 was tried in every PCI slot for at least one card (V550 I think) but tried multiple PCI slots with the others.

I used a variety of RAM, both 66MHz and 100MHz with sizes from 32MB to 512MB.

I tried several BIOS settings, too many to remember.

I think I'm at the end here but I want to know if anyone has had a Voodoo 1 working in a ASUS P3B-F board? P2B-F is very similar and I have one of those two.

Thanks for any input!

I've run several Voodoo 1 on a P3B-F with Pentium II 350.
One Maxi Gamer 3D didn't work on anything faster than a 266 or 300 MHz (not sure which was the max anymore) and only with early and late drivers. It did not work with Win98 onboard drivers. The card had a 96 mfg date.
Maybe those cards are similar divas?

How does it not work?

Does it show up in the PCI Device listing of the BIOS? I think a Voodoo is a 'Multimedia Device'.
Is it recognized in any other way? Drivers in Windows or a Voodoo supporting game in DOS?

Does the Voodoo 1 show up on the PCI Bus at all? There are many programs you could use to check with one being my SIV utility

Is the problem the exact same one as the one you posted here? Got used Voodoo 1 card, it does not appear to be working for 3D, pass-through works

To all of you:
- Both Voodoo cards are Diamond Monster 3D, one is 1996 Rev B, the other 1997 Rev A, slightly different layouts on PCB
Below is yesterdays testing with 1997 card
- Both DOS and Windows.
DOS - Tomb Raider will just show black but audio can be heard. Screamer 2 says it cannot find card.
WIN - GLQuake crashes
- Device is seen in Windows in Device Manager, Drivers are installed and appear to recognize device
- Same issue as I posted before but with different twist.
- Ran Siv32 but it freezes PC. Have P2 running at 133 with 32MB RAM. Will try later after bumping that up but no time now.

Sorry about this and I hope all was OK once you rebooted. SIV should run OK on a P2 @ 133MHz with 32MB, but more memory may help. It ran OK this morning on a Dual Intel Pentium (P54C) @ 90MHz NT4 system with 64MB. Exactly which version of Windows do you have?

Either way would you like to help me fix it? If so from a command window do siv32l -dbgini -dbgpci > SIV_DBGOUT.log | more and post SIV_DBGOUT.log to SIV support for 386/486/586 class + Alpha CPUs and 3dfx + S3 + SiS + Matrox + XGI + old ATI + NVidia GPUs - Testing Help so I can check how far SIV gets.

Do CPUZ or HWiNFO run OK? If so please post the CPUZ save file.

No problem but it will have to wait until tonight, maybe tomorrow. Gota work to pay for all this stuff 😒

Win98 SE is what I'm using

So the freezing is not SIV's fault. I installed Everest and the machine froze when scanning PCI devices. Apparently, there was a conflict with the S3 Trio. I took out the S3 and put in the Diamond Viper 550 (Riva TNT). Both SIV and Everest see both the TNT and the Voodoo 1. I hope I'm getting somewhere but it still doesn't work. GLQuake still crashes as well as Screamer2. Tombraid still goes black but there is audio.

Here's the brief log of the PCI devices. I'll attach the full report from SIV32

I guess you probably had remnant of Glide DLL/OVL from Voodoo3 that you didn't clean up properly before installing Voodoo1. The Voodoo1 simply landed on the wrong DLL/OVL and crashed hard.

But would that affect DOS?

Why not, if the game was looking for GLIDE2X.OVL? The OVL is for DOS games, unless the games have static linked OVL, very few have one. Since you had mentioned only Tomb Raider 1, that game has 2 version of patches, one called 3Dfx patch which has static linked OVL and another called the Voodoo Rush patch which looks for OVL. And, it so happened that you had Voodoo Rush working, so I guess you must have the Voodoo Rush patch with the game.

I tried both patches for Tomb Raider and for Screamer 2. GLQuake would be affected by what windows driver is in use. I'll try from scratch again.

So the freezing is not SIV's fault. Apparently, there was a conflict with the S3 Trio. I took out the S3 and put in the Diamond Viper 550 (Riva TNT). Both SIV and Everest see both the TNT and the Voodoo 1.

I half suspected this which is why I specified -dbgpci.

What multiplier and FSB was the system set to when you generated the save please? I guessed x3 + 66MHz, the attached should deal with this and also adds some Riva TNT support.

Can you boot Windows NT4, 2K or XP? If so I suspect SIV will do rather better and new save files (there will also be a .DMI file) would be good.

Here are logs from Windows XP running at 400MHz (4x100) and two sets from Win98 at 400 (4x100) and 266 (4x66).

I then tried each PCI slot at 266MHz, no dice. TR1 launches, goes black, I hear the audio, I know how to exit the game without seeing it, but when I do, the screen does not return. I have to plug the vga cable in to the TNT card to see video again. Maybe that means something?

GLQuake crashes everythime with a wglCreateConnect failed error.

Any special BIOS settings to try?

Thank you, but I should have been clearer as it's the save files I need to see and only asked for the logs when we though SIV was locking up the system.

To generate the save files just run SIV32L.exe with no qualifiers and then do Menu->File->Save Local which should generate SIV_RETRONATER.txt + SIV_RETRONATER.dmi files on XP and just SIV_RETRONATER.txt on 98.

On XP + 98 both the TNT + Voodoo 1 should be reported as a GPUs (Menu->File->GPU Info).

Edit I added 3dfx Voodoo1 + Voodoo2 Windows 98 support for SIV 5.43 Beta-04
