It's been long time since I used Windows 3.1. I forgot how to set display refresh rate in Windows 3.1.
I have following PCI VGA cards driving my LCD display:
Diamond S3 Vision 964
Generic S3 868
Generic S3 Trio84V+ card
When I am using the first card, the Diamond drivers came with a Diamond GUI tool that allows me to set a monitor type in Windows. Then I can select a monitor (60 Hz) and 1024x786 resolution and everything is fine.
However, when using 868 or Trio64 with generic drivers, there is no such tool. I need to select specific resolution from the list in setup.exe. When I do that no mode with 1024x768 works (my LCD is out of sync). 640x480 modes work fine.
I guess the generic driver is setting some non-standard refresh rate for 1024x768 which isn't compatible with my LCD. How do I set a different one. Tried to use S3REFRSH.EXE but it doesn't seem to be making any different no matter what I choose.
How do you set refresh for S3 cards in Windows 3.1?
