In the interest of disclosure, I had a small issue with my NuXT board. My VGA CRT monitor was causing enough interference that the board would sometimes fail to boot.

It took a while to figure out what the problem was. It also seems that not all CRT monitors will cause a problem, and of course LCD monitors don't effect it.

For me, I just turn off my monitor before I boot the computer. It doesn't appear to effect normal operation, just the boot sequence, and specifically I think the VGA bios.

I did exchange a board with JD while trying to figure out what the problem is, so it does appear to effect more than just my unit.

I haven't had a reason to test my serial port. I am on revision 1.2.

Mothergoose, Thank you for sorting that problem out for me as well!

I have the same issue with my NuXT. If I leave my CRT plugged in or ON and boot the machine oftentimes the VGA bios will register in black and white (not color text) and then it will fail to boot (somewhere around recognizing the CF storage devices).

Anyways the problem is completely mitigating by turning off the CRT, then turning on the NuXT and waiting a few secs post VGA bios and then turning on the CRT or plugging it in.

As far as my serial port, it seems to work ok, I dont use the single serial port though, I use a combo card so that I can get a parallel port and it also happens to have 2 serial ports and a gameport.

Hope that helps any other current or future NuXT owners!

Just experienced this VGA problem myself. Quite peculiar. Thanks for the heads up about the monitor.
