Does anyone know whats up with the Win32 version of Baslisk II?

The emulator is very well developed, but I had hoped that there would be some ongoing tweaks to fix some (for me) non-working titles.

IE: Prince of Persia looks great in 640x480, but there's some kind of latency (?) issue that causes distortion when it plays musical themes.

I dunno, I've been having problems even getting HQX files to extract so I could try running things. I'm only using system 7.5.3, but I mean, BinHex files are an OLD Mac format. (What am I doing wrong??)

Yes, it’s my fault.

I do remember that getting the OS transferred and installed is the worst part.

You can download the PDF Guide at:
http://thetechnozone.com/pcbuyersguide/softwa … BasiliskII.html
It's about 11 Megs (compressed) though...
Chapter 3 covers the basic install info.

Might be better off with the online guide at:
http://mes.emuunlim.com/
http://mes.emuunlim.com/macemu/basilisk2/basi … elp/b2setup.htm

I recommend that you setup an OS Partition (hardfile), just large enough to hold the OS (maybe 20-30 meg extra for temp/virtual memory space). Once you install the OS (and confirm that it will boot without the "floppy" in place), make a backup of it immediately. Store it somewhere safe. This way, any future installs will simply consist of copying over the OS hardfile, then creating a new hardfile for programs.

Just make sure that you never place any games or anything not directly OS-related on your OS partition.

Sorry, misunderstood (thought you download the OS _as_ HQX files and were trying to "glue" them together).

I'm pretty sure you need a tool like "Stuff-It" to unpack the HQX files or let "HFV Explorer" convert them (IOW, no native support).

Yeah, I dunno, it was messed up. The site I used to install OS7.5.3's boot disk didn't have Stuffit Expander on it, and HFVExplorer said it couldn't find HQX headers on these things. (Don't ask me...) I found another boot disk with Stuffit Expander on it and have been able to extract HQX files. (If only Glider Pro's demo didn't freeze my entire system...)

Yes, it’s my fault.

The last update to Basilik II was a patch created by the author, Lauri Pesonen, on March 29th 2002. It was a "gamma ramp patch" aimed at fixing the problem running Escape Velocity Nova under Basilisk II. This was in response to many emails asking him to get EVN to work under B2. The release was the BasiliskII.exe only - note that it was not JIT optimized.

Also notable is Christian Bauer pointed out that the latest (Linux) builds already include the required code ...
Christian:"Methinks you should update to the latest CVS sources."
Lauri: "You're so right of course -- and I will sooner or later..."

Before that, the last update was January 20, 2001 - build 142.

The last version of Basilisk II (general) was Release 0.9-1, May 31 2001.

And I know all this because I've been a follower of Emaculation for years! (http://www.emaculation.com)
(Although it seems to have only archived my posts as far back as April 2001 - their site archive's a bit funky due to hosting changes and lawsuits...)

I think what's going on is that both lead developers are quite busy with work. Still, it's all open-source so people can continue working on it. I'd particularly like to see Basilisk II Win32 brought up to date with the main version, with Gwenole's JIT emulation and Lauri's own fixes, but I may be dreaming.

Because Nicht asked:

Does anyone know whats up with the Win32 version of Baslisk II?

The emulator is very well developed, but I had hoped that there would be some ongoing tweaks to fix some (for me) non-working titles.

And I knew what was up with the Win32 and the regular version.

The rest of the post gave you guys information as to where to direct your Basilisk II questions. I've been in their forums, but in some cases, not for years...
