Don't know about early chipsets, but Apollo VPX, VP2, VP3, etc. we're all relabeled as ETEQ (as seen on Soyo motherboards). In fact, I suspect nobody except Soyo ever used chips labeled as ETEQ.

ETEQ is definitely a Soyo thing. In the socket 7 era, all their ETEQ chipsets may very well have been VIAs, but I don't think that was definitely the case during the 386 and 486 era. BIOSTAR is another example of a manufacturer who liked to rebrand their chipsets. Their boards always had "BIOTEQ" chipsets, and they came from quite a number of different vendors, including FTDI, OPTi, ATMEL etc.

I didn't go so far as to dissect one each to compare them, no.
I originally learned that a few days ago in a thread here.
IIRC, you wrote that, so YOU told me so. 🤣 🤣
I'm under the weather and might not remember correctly who, but it was someone I consider a trusted source and I'm pretty sure it was you.
I'm not one to use one source so I researched it online and I found dozens, if not hundreds of references that say so.
They included mobo spec sheets in the WAYBACK (Soyo's WAYBACKs were very productive. They have several.), inside mobo manuals, Wikipedia, and more than one hardware info site.
I just did all that and I'm satisfied it's correct so I'm not doing it again today.
.
Here is one quickie though.
I saved this one because I'm looking for an MVP3 based ATX board.

Soyo liked them a lot but they were not exclusive to Soyo.
Soyo even did that with capacitors in the P3-P4 eras because they wanted all silver caps for some reason.
If they had not OEMed those from crap cap manufacturers they might not have gotten sued into bankruptcy.
Here is a far from complete quick list of NOT Soyo ETEQ boards.
The first one is a 586.
That said that manual looks like they OEM'ed it from someone and just blanked out the real manufacturer's info on the first page. The real manufacturer may have been Soyo. Who knows?

I have a few boards with ETEQ chipset.
I'm sure i've mentioned on Vogons before... they are the best, most top, boards I have.
VIA also OEM'ed the MVP4.
The OEM version was named: VIA GRA
