Hi guys, I've searched the net for info on this card but only a couple of results show up and no info whatsoever of the card. It's an Obsidian Pro, model 650-2200-04, according to the memory chips it seems to have 8mb of memory, but I'm skeptical. Anyone has any idea about it?

There was a Quantum3D Obsidian Pro, sure, but there were many, many models carrying that nameplate.

For starters, comparing the pics of the card you posted with a Voodoo 1 I have (a "no-name" voodoo board), they are pretty much mirror images of each other. Looks like just a 4MB model.

Additional evidence can be found here: http://www.modlabs.net/forum/topic/7870/page__st__1270 (use google translate)

The exact same P/N, people say it's a 4MB. Quantum3D Voodoo PCBs are usually black in color, too.

Here's more info on the better, way crazier Obsidian boards: http://www.thedodgegarage.com/3dfx/q3d_obsidian.htm

Looks like a pretty standard Voodoo 1 to me. Certainly 4 MB, as 8 MB was maximum and there is unpopulated space for another 8 RAM chips on the back.

Best way to find out is to simply test it. But that card is not for the Mac (not that it matters, it would work in a Mac anyway).

@Am386DX-40:
Is that picture of your card, actually? If so, I guess it's not working. There are burnt spots and other things that don't look right.

So have you tested how much memory it really detect ?

This is regular Voodoo Graphics 2200 - 2MB for FBI, 2MB for TMU. If the memory spots on the back were populated, then it would be 4+4 MB. Probably some kind of OEM manufacturer who used the Q3D PCB layout. Notice the empty spots for SLI connector and second TMU daughterboard connectors. So not a real Obsidian from Q3D... but interesting card for sure. This PCB style is uncommon. Btw - it is easy to mod to 8MB - just solder the memory chips on the back 😀

For example - Skywell Magic 3D Plus also used this design http://tdfx.de/eng/magic3d_plus.shtml

But the ram chips here are 1mb, not 512kb as usual.

Why do you think it is not real Q3D ? There also exists Obsidian2 from Q3D on green pcb. First Obsidians don't have Quantum3D label both black and green. And also I saw many photos of black obsidians with same round green QC sticker as here. So I am pretty sure it is the real Q3D, maybe one of the latest.

Here is also a green Q3D Obsidian2, pcb date is 9917. It has same round green QC sticker.The Obsidian Pro from this topic is 9916 pcb. I also saw 9917 pcbs. https://irecommend.ru/content/legenda-domashnego-3d
So maybe these are late revisions of Obsidian Pro and Obsidian2 from 99. The black usually have 98 date on pcbs.

These boards also have empty spots for connectors. Skywell uses same pcb design but don't have label Obsidian Pro as the one in this topic.
